Super newb question.

Just dusted off my Commodore 64. Havnt touched it in about 8 years.

How the hell do you change games? Lets say your playing a game and you want to quit it and go back to the main c64 screen, do you have to shut off the system everytime? I tried hitting every button but i cant figure out how to shutdown the game and load another without turning off the power.

I know this is a nub question lol but please help my newbishness!

Sometimes Run Stop / Restore works, but most of the time, you're better off just turning the system off and then back on I think.

Scooter's right. And unfortunately, even when the the old Run Stop/Restore trick works it usually leaves crap in memory.

Several of the disk speed up carts like Final Cartridge and Super Snapshot had reset buttons built into them which made resetting the C64 a bit easier. Many people (such as myself) modified their C64's and installed reset switches (instructions here (http://www.atarimagazines.com/hi-res/v1n4/commodoreonline.php)).

Yeah, this is usually the only way to do it...

Unless you have a custom hardwired reset button!!! :D

For controllers, I prefer either Wico Joysticks, an Epyx joystick, or a Mini Gemstick.

Sega Genesis pads work well.

But if you need 2 buttons, 2600 joysticks are nice as well.

Never use Genesis pads with a C64, they have a tendency to burn the CIA (the chip that receives your input) out rather easily.

I use Competition Pro or Powerplay Cruiser sticks...

Personally, I think that the Cheetah Bug is the best one.

Last year I bought a PSX pad that had been converted to work on an Atari 2600 (and therefore, a C64 as well). I love it! I went back to buy another one and they are out of business. :/ At least I got ONE!

My favorite joystick back in the day was the Kraft stick. It was about the same color as the 64 with a small black stick.
