I found this at a Salvation army today for $2 and I would like to know what it is. The casing is the exact same shape and size as a Neo Geo controller. Any help would be great.

Does the stick use switches like the similar Neo Geo ones?

it might be more helpful if you took a good picture of the plug. that's the surefire way to i.d. it, unless it's the old 80s standard DB9, but then at least we have a ballpark of systems to work at ;)

That's a very cool find there...looks pretty high quality. Have you tried the Sega Arcade stick? Is it better?

Is there any other markings on it, other that"iMP?"

holy moley!

i've got the same damn mystery controller. i've had it for ages and never found out what it is. i handed it to no less authority than DP himself and he didnt know what it was...google is no help either. well anyways i never posted a picture of mine online so maybe this will help both of us find out what it is. it takes 4 AA batteries and has 9 pin port (ala atari 2600), an 8 hole din and a covered port that looks like it might take a ribbon cable? so there you have it, the rest you can see.

my hunches have leaned toward an all in one TV game (unlikely), a genesis controller (but why all the extras?) or some sort of PC games controller (more likely).

might seem a bit too simple to be wise, but, have you tried actually USING the controller on genesis? my advice would be to monkey with it, put it on genesis, then try it on cv, 2600, 7800, and coleco just for fun.....see if it works....yeah it'd be nice to know what it really is for....but personally i'd be happy just using the damn thing!

Maybe it's controller for more than one system, you know, like the joypad you buy that are SNES and Megadrive compatible. That'd expain the different connections and it would make it hard to pin down. If it's made by somw small, obscure company then finding info online is probably nigh impossible as well...Good luck anyway! :)

I was doing some searching and it seems that Sega made a similar version for the Mega Drive I found this onEbay Austraila site It's not exactly the same but mabe a small third party company made a similar one.

That last one looks like a generic three button controller...no Neo Geo housing, no funky cables, doesn't seem to be significant in this question. Looks interesting, though.

take a picture of the connector please

Also its like my fanta stick ie. unoffical and not much known but my stick looks better :P

Also it can't be a neogeo stick because there is no D button only ABC

alright now...

everybody, the reason i'm not just plugging it in is the lack of a proper cable. its like this- the controller has a male nine pin port so that means all of my sega/wico joystick extension cables wont work cause they are male/female ends. what i would need to test it would be a female/female 9 pin cable. the second port reminds me of a computer keyboard in, a DIN, no idea on that one and the third port is even more mysterious.

if anybody has and ideas on how to work around the lack of a female/female cable let me know.

Same problem here I don't really want to pick up a serial mouse cable and a gender changer (if it even works) just to test the joystick. I'll see if my friend has a cable though.
