Does your family really know where you're going next weekend

Mine sure as heck doesn't. The wife does, of course, but no matter how much explanation I throw at my parents or co-workers they all seem to have it in their heads that CGE2K4 either has something to do primarily with either computers, comic books or something equally associated with geekness. :roll: ...phone conversations go like this:

Me: Hi Mom. Just reminding you I'll be out of town next weekend.
Mom: Oh, yeah. You've got that, uh, Star Trek thing going on, right?
Me: No, Mom. It's a convention for people who like old videogames.
Mom: But can you play your Atari games on your Playstation2?
Me: Sort of, I guess, in compilation formats.
Mom: And you'll be in Las Vegas again, right?
Me: :frustrated:

Does anyone else find themselves in a similiar boat? Or are your loved ones savvy enough to appreciate CGE for the coolness it truly is?

My parents know I'm gone that weekend but they don't have a friggin clue as to what's it's about. They know it has something to do with videogames but they have no idea why I going and what I do when I'm there. And I don't bother changing their perceptions because when I tried in the past, the conversations got REALLY wierd and stupid.

I ran into my mother one day at a good will, she bought me some atari stuff when we were there. My brother collects handhelds and is going to CGE with me. And my wife is sick of my stuff, and wants to go to CGE. But I am making her stay home for CGE, I can't have her being bored and wanting to leave early.

Same thing here. I've been telling everyone I can for as long as I've known where CGE is being held. ANd two of my cousins are coming with me.

yeah, my family knows and they are going with me since they are my only way of getting there. They are going to be bored, but we are turning it into a family trip where we will also visit san fran and great america.

My family has standing orders to swipe any old video games they see at garage sales or thrift stores if they come across them, so I'd say the fact they understand is a big YES! :D

They all know. Hell I've gotten a few lists of things people want me to get them if I see em LOL

Living in a family of game players rocks. Hell, even my grandma used to play river raid like mad.
