I was thinking about picking up a lynx but I'm not sure what model I should get. What's the difference between the two models and which would you guys recommend?

I recommend the Lynx 2 - its smaller and it fixed the minor problems like auto shut off function was turned into shut off during puase to save battery life, added LED indicator for battery life, and a soft reset.

I had a friend with a Lynx back in the day but I never had one...do these go for much? Granted that I am a gamer and not a collector, I prefer these things to be inexpensive LOL I want one :)

I've been kind of hoping to get my hands on one of these suckers too.

A month ago a Lynx 2 + Paperboy showed up at a nearby Value Village (the only cool thing I've ever seen at a Value Village.) Naturally, tho, being Value Village they marked the price up to ridiculous levels--$40.

At least I assume that's too much. It's certainly more than I feel comfortable paying and seeing as they haven't sold it in a month I'm guessing others feel the same way. The also had an old APF Pong clone that they wanted $30 for. $30!!! Value Village sux.

My informal and incomplete research indicates an average price for a Lynx is in the $30 area--still about $10 more than I'd want to pay.

Its quite hard to find the atari lynx now and days but thiers a good number of them on eBay, ranging well over 50 bux. but somtimes you can buy now auctions for like 35-40 bux if your lucky.

Lynx is a great underrated handheld. I adore mine. $40 would be a somewhat reasonable price if it works (I paid $60 for mine on Ebay but that came with games). Well, okay...$40 actually a little steep, but past that you can actually build a decent library of games for it for $5-$10 apiece.

And don't be afraid of those $5 titles either. Some of the best Lynx games are the cheap ones, e.g. - Rampart, Cyberball, Steel Talons.

VGLQ used to have a really nice Lynx package of a II and games for sale online but they seem to have gotten away from selling that. Your best bet online would be B&C ComputerVisions (http:www.myatari.com). If you're going to CGE, B&C is a consistent vendor that always has the best selection of Lynx stuff at the best prices. Their refurb systems will go boxed for around $25 at the show so pay them a visit.

Wherver you get one, get a II, not a I.

if you get a lynx....get chip's challenge....it is one of the cheap less than $5 games and it is one of my all time favorite games...

I have both models of the Lynx. The orginial is way better than the smaller black version. The original version has a much bigger speaker and the sound is truly great. The smaller black version is Ok but i would go for the bigger version. Battery life is not an issue for me as I use an ac adapter most of the time. Make sure you get California games,Chips's Challenge, Blue Lightning ,Warbirds.
Happing gaming.

from my research, experience using both models at MGC, and consulting a certain atari expert who also runs www.classicgaming.com, i am also going to reccomend the ORIGINAL model. (Although, i always reccomend the original model, no matter what console, but i always have a reason ;) ) the original does indeed have better sound.

I'm sure we'll see each other...I want to try and find a complete one first, but if it doesn't look like I can then I'll probably snag one from you.

Actually, I'd recommend a model II also. It's a big enough system as it is, the smaller one suits me, at least, just fine. Plus Crystal Mines II was an excellent title, also for five bucks.

I was thinking about taking advantage of this deal:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8124187953&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

It has a couple of good games that people around here have said are good (Crystal Mines II, Chip's Challenge, Xybots). I'm not sure about the others. Would you guys recommend this package.

There are a couple of other games that I played in the past and want (A.P.B., Ninja Gaiden)...what other games would you recommend?
