View Full Version : Vice city locking up ?

anyone else having this issue ,ive seen a few other people online saying theres locked up too.Its pissing me off i just got the game and got to the part to blow up the building with the rc helicopter and i got in the van and the screen went black .its locked up at differnet spots too.Im going to get it exchanged today and see if that helps.NONE OF MY OTHER PS2 GAMES OR GTA III DO THAT.

I had three copies of GTAIII and they all locked up on me. I know I'm not the only one with this problem (and yes, I cleaned my lenes and , yes, the disc, was clean, etc.). I won't buy Vice City, just becasue I know the same idiocy will befall me.

Ive never had this problem with both of the games, It sounds like you guys might be expiriencing the early warning signs of the dreaded ps2 cheap lazer lens.

Vice City is the only PS2 game that has ever locked up on me, and it's done it several times. That's what happens when you get a game from the first shipment, I guess...

BZZZZ! Wrong! I have had no - none - nada - other games/DVDs/etc. lock up on my PS2. Ever. I have played the piss out of this thing since the first day of release. Never a problem. Never a lock-up. Never a skip. But stick GTAIII in there, and my PS2 suffers a stroke. x_x

I've had one of the Official PS2 magazine demo discs lock up on me. It was the one with Spy Hunter on it (and the only reason I bought the damn magazine.) Disc and lazer were clean, disc never worked. Called Sony about getting a replacement and the hoops they wanted me to go through just weren't worth it. I haven't bought a copy of that mag since.

ive had vice freeze up on me once. it was in a cut scene and someone was supposed to get in my car, but they just stood outside it and i couldnt do anything except reset.

I definitely remember getting GTA II for the original PlayStation for a buddy of mine, and he eventually returned it because the bugs in it were ruining his enjoyment of the game. So I'd have to guess it's a Rockstar issue and not a PS issue.

Really Then I have no Idea what it could be I dont think it's a 1st shipment thing as my copy was got the same day it came out also. A good friend of mine has a ps2 that only loads a few of his games and the others constantly freeze on him but they work super on my ps2. Perhaps writing a letter to Rockstar and asking thier tech support to see if it's a common problem with some of thier discs. I can tell you 1st hand that the ps2 has a cheap lazer lens as I myself have replaced it 2 times and calibrated it 3x already.

That is the only F*CK*ING problem with the game. It locked up on me after some GREAT cash was made. Also, my friend made tons of money, and It locked up on him.

don't you guys have backup saves? If not, you deserve whatever calamity befalls you.

Oh, and I've heard that the game locks sometimes when you save at the ice cream place.

I myself have also gone through 2 PS2's because of their lazer lenz, and another because the door decided to not open anymore. I also know a lot of people whom this has happened to. We also get atleast one PS2 returned a week at Wal-Mart.

@Neo-Maybe your friend should try taking apart his PS2 and cleaning around the lens. I had the same problem with my X-Box, took it apart and cleaned around the lens,(It was Nasty)and have not had a problem since.

On a side note. I have seen an X-box taken apart that was full of dead bees?!

with or without cheats .i got it exchanged it didnt lock up i only played for a hour and i didnt do any missions just goofing off

GTAIII never locks up on me. Of course, it's just sitting in the case until I finally go out and get a PS2! :D LOL

I've had GTAII for a while, when I was playing it heavy (2-3 hours a day) I never once had a lockup...don't know what the problem is...

after about 6 months GTA3 started to do that to me. I played it for 2-3 months, took3-4 months off, then when I went to play it again it froze EVERY TIME within about 5 minutes at different places. I've heard other people having the same problem with GTA3.

It also happened to me on SSX and Madden 2001. I bought a new PS2 at Best buy and returned my old one (They KNEW it was a different part number and still returned it Woohoo!). The problem got better, but it still exists.
