So China is currently leading the medal race in the Olympics and as my mind tends to always think in video game terms I said (outloud- scared my friend since he wasn't paying attention to me) "hey what has China contributed to the gaming scene?" Of course we all know they are famous for pirating games since the dawn of time but other than that what have they brought us gamers thats unique to Chinesse development? Anyone know? 8-)

Splinter Cell is developed in Shanghai, as far as I know. A lot of tablet PC work is done in China at Microsoft's overseas office. And lest we forget all of the hacks out of Hong Kong like the Treamcast.

Some parts of the GP32 (which is South Korean) are made in China...

The Chineese really seem to like video games a lot, and no not just the pirated ones. In Hong Kong, Sham Shui Po has hundreds of game stores. In mainland Shen Zhen has tons as well.

There are also a number of exclusive releases and products for Taiwan, which some consider China...

In any event, China may not contribute a lot to the developement of games now, but it plays a huige role in the manufacturing of hardware, and increasingly games companies are outsourcing game related jobs to the Asia pacific, China is in all likelyhood going to become more a game industry workhorse as time goes on.

With a market of a billion and a half China could reshape the gaming landscape, sell a single game to every inhabinate of shanghai whose population the UN estimates at betweeen 23 and 25 million and it would become one of the best selling titles in history, and thats just one city in an increasingly industrialized country
