All I can say is: YUCK!

 Yuck? I think FF10.2 looks rather cool... especially Rikku and Yuna in their news outfits. Beautiful.

FF7.2 doesn't even have screenshots yet. How can you say "yuck" about something you haven't even seen?!?!?

FF7-2 is a RUMOR, it even SAYS SO on that page! If Square were to release a FF7 Sequel, they wouldn't have waited (5?6?) YEARS.

FFX-2 is an ACTION oriented game. Square needs to BACK OFF of the action games for a bit and release some REAL RPG's again. I can't even REMEMBER the last Square RPG that came out.

Yes, Yuna has a VERY SWEET ASS in FFX-2. That's not enough to make me want to play it though! Then again, I don't care about BMX XXX either, if I want to drool over Cyber-girls I would go on Kazaa or something. Get em for free and not have to deal with some crappy game getting in the way.

I'll probly end up getting FFx-2, but it MAY be the first final fantasy game that I DON'T get. (Second if you include the fact that FFXI isn't being released stateside)

I guess I'm the only one who actually LIKED FF10? Only complaint was the battles were too easy, but otherwise I thought it was a *fantastic* game. I'm curious: What Square games do you consider "real" RPGs?

Here's a pic of Rikku for those who haven't seen yet:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. To hell with these damn final fantasy "true sequels".....the FF series has been plenty successful and lucrative, why screw with the formula when it works so well?

TRUE RPG's? (as far as the series goes)
1,2,3,4,5,6 (Armor, Spells, Classes, Weapons, Stats, Fighting, a CHALLENGE, GREAT story, you HAD to know what you were doing or you DIED. Good summons power level in the games that had them.)

Kinda RPG's
7,8,9 (Great Stories, NO Armor, NO Reasonable Spell System, no Choice of weapons-it was obvious which weapon was better, Stats didn't matter, Decent amount of fighting, Reasonably Easy, good side quests, might have died 2-3 times. NOT too linear, Summons made them a little too easy)

NOT an RPG - 10
FFX Was an interactive movie, in that aspect, it was GREAT! As a game, it was pathetically easy, the sphere grid was just stupid IMO, since it didn't matter WHAT you did, the game was still easy, it was WAY too linear, Weapons were pathetic, Armor was non-existent, Even the Summons' were Lame! NO Stats, and it was the ONLY Final Fantasy game I only played once with NO interest of playing it again.

So, theres my answer.

How about "Real" RPGs that are not Final Fantasy? What would you list? Chrono Trigger perhaps?

Sylentwulf

Real RPG's that aren't final fantasy... Well, I don't want to get into it, because everyone will start jumping up and down screaming that there really aren't ANY RPG's on Home Consoles, and blah blah blah. Trust me, I've tried it before. It was a long time ago, so I don't really remember the specifics :)

It's like telling someone that's 65 years old that a "great new comic book" came out, and them saying "Back in MY day when Dick Tracy came out there were REAL comic books" and then ranting for 3 hours. It's just nothing anyone wants to listen to :)

1, 2, 3, and 5 all sucked. Terrible. I couldn't get into the plots of any of them (except 1, because it had no story). Added to the fact that it seemed to be the same basic plotlines revisted repeatedly, and they just weren't very good compared to the contemporaries, the Dragon Warrior series. 4 and 6 though, they were fantastic games.
Of the generation of the series, 7 was good. That was it. 8 had a weak storyline, boring characters, and that system where the enemies levelled up too? Why bother levelling up? 9 seemed too generic, and once you got the princess from the queen, really, did anything happen after that until the final boss? 10 was weak... no world map? Boring characters (I want to stab Tidus in the face, I swear). I never cared about the plot, nor did I care when it ended. The fact that they're making a sequel does nothing for me.

so 4, 6, and 7. Those are the only FFs I recommend to people. And Tactics. But Tactics is just sweet like that. No, a real good console rpg, go for the dragon warriors. Go for the Chrono series. Those are both fantastic (Trigger is still my favorite RPG ever made, and one of my top 5 games).

Don't mis-read my post, that DEFINITELY WAS NOT how I would rank the FF Games from best to worst :) Just from most RPG-like to Least RPG-like.

If I had to rank them (I didn't play 2 or 3) I would go:
6,4,7,8,9,1,5,10
I hated FF5, but that could have been partly due to the fact that I didn't play it until it came out on the PS so it was pretty outdated. I didn't like the class-system in that ONE though.

Squaresoft should make a sequel to Einhander...I'm tired of final fantasy. That is all. >:(

I'd go 6, 7, 4 myself ;p the rest I didn't like equally. Except 8 and 1. They get special, bottom of the barrel treatment ;p

I know I'm in the minority on FF8, so I won't argue that. Why so hard on FF1 though? Did you like Dragon Warrior 1 THAT much better? I would probly pick DW1 over FF1 (By a TINY amount), BUT DW1 was SMALL and SHORT. FF1 was HUGE. More monsters, more armor, more characters, more story, more weapons, more spells, classes, upgraded classes, towns... I could go on and on ;)

Now if you were comparing DW2,3, or 4 to FF1 I would agree completely :)

Squaresoft should call it quits with final fantasy. They should start continuous fantasy I

FF 10's story had too many holes in it and toow eird, the graphics and sound really carried that game- if it wasn't a FF title it could probably been passed off as an adventure-action game perhaps. And the Sphere System sucks badly.

FFIV and VI are still my fav old-school FF titles.

This is what I hated about FF1:
Number 1:What story? The game was this-World is dying, 4 guys come out of nowhere with crystal orbs that they kill monsters until they start glowing and save the world. Compared to DW1's story, that was pretty weak.

Number 2: BORING. It may have been long, but it was so damn boring I couldn't get through more the a quarter. The whole game was sidequests! Nothing wrong with that per se, but the way the game set them up, you just didn't care.

Number 3: Equipment. Specifically, you don't know who can use what in-game. Mine didn't come with a manual. I found out online who could use what, but that issue still bugged me.

Number 4: Most of the monsters were pretty lame. GrOgre? I mean really! And the battle system was unwieldly if you ask me. Attacking dead monsters is a pain ;p

In short I had no fun with FF1, and even amongst it's contemporaries for the NES and SMS, it was trash as far as I'm concerned.

FF2 for the nes I didn't like much either- cool story and all but the battle system was kinda as bad as X's Sphere System. Of the 3 Nes FF titles I like 3 the most.

Re: This is what I hated about FF1:
Number 1: DW Story? Some bad guy took the princess, and he's bad, go kill him. NO Side-stories at ALL. That's it. Find him, kill him.

Number 2: To each their own, I thought they were both kinda boringm each for their own reasons, you had to level up and get gold to buy weapons in both....

Number 3: I had a manual. :)

Number 4: DW had pretty much the same monsters, except it had less of them with more pallette swaps, and less differences. DW1 monsters were either physical, or magical, no in betweens.

To each their own, but you're not making very good arguements as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "You're wrong I'm right" I'm just saying that I don't understand how DW1 was much better than FF1. It was easier, and had less story to follow, and was MUCH less complicated, but that's wher eI had MORE fun in FF1.

I think Sylentwulf is on to something. As I wrote in my thesis last year, I think Square was deliberately trying to reference/disparage/poke fun at Dragon Quest, Zelda, and Super Mario in the first hour of Final Fantasy. I'll quote myself:

"But perhaps even more importantly, this opening sequence is removed from the rest of the game in many specific ways. First, it is set on an island, physically removed from where the rest of the game will take place. Second, the entire episode happens before the title screen occurs and the text says, “And so, their journey begins.” It is not a coincidence that this first quest has the Light Warriors, at the behest of a nameless King, save the Princess from an evil fiend (who, later in the game, reveals himself to have very dragon-like features). This is sending a not-so-subliminal message to the player: “Final Fantasy is about much more than saving the princess. Compared to the adventure that is about to take place, saving a princess is merely child’s play, and prologue.” The message was not lost on a group of game players who had literally all been exposed to Super Mario and Dragon Quest."

I should have also mentioned that in one town, there is a gravestone that reads, in the Japanese version, "Link sleeps here."

I'll second the Einhander sequal, that would rule...

In fact, other than wanting to play Kingdom Hearts, and The Bouncer...I can't think of another Square game I've ever even played...

Wow, never really thought about the first FF that way before. Well in the US version don't forget, there was Erdrick's gravestone in the elf villiage also.

Nintendo changed it from a jab at their game to an advertisement for their other RPG...

Of course, it made much more sense in Japanese since Link is an ELF. :)
