If I were to play Super Mario Advance (the first one with Mario Bros.) on the Gameboy Player for the GC, would it be possible to play the four player mode on it?

No, since you will have to use 3 extra GameBoys connected to it as well. I tried this trick before Mario and Luigi SuperStar Saga

No, you will need three gba's and link cables - the little ext plug in front of the gameboy player is where other playes get conected.
