I picked this game up at CC for $5 back during the sale. I played it a bit and got rocked hard and several times by Mojo King Bee, and then set it aside. I liked the game but it was just so damn hard.
Well, I was playing Frequency today (also got it for $5 :D ) and while I love that game, it just wasn't doing it for me so I popped in Gitaroo Man again.
I love the simplistic complexity of the controls. Rotate the joystick, and push the buttons when it comes time. Simple controls but INSANE difficulty when combining techniques at high speed. Much better than Frequency's three buttons.
I managed to beat Mojo King Bee after two attempts today (barely), only to get schooled by the Shark dude that follows him. I can't even make it past the first quarter of the song before my wrist gets tired! I can't believe how nearly impossible the game got, and this is only stage four! I'm afraid to try it on hard mode.
I still love the game, and quite frankly has the BEST music out of any game I have ever played, hands down. (Does anybody know where I can buy the soundtrack?)
I highly recommend this to any person who enjoys a good rhythm and groove game.
Who else enjoys this rather hidden gem?

Soundtrack can be found quite easily on the 'bay.
Also, I'd like to say you are a bastard for finding that at the CC sale.
There's 2 kinds of music games: The kind that is purely music (DDR and all that other Bemani, Frequency, Mad Maestro, Pump It Up, etc.) and the kind that uses music to tell a story or as a large part of the gameplay (Parappa, Rez, Space Channel 5)
Gitaroo Man belongs to the 2nd group, and it's definitely my favorite out of the 2nd group. The Bee Jam Blues is unbelievably fun.
And yes, after you beat the game and get Masters Mode, you will be floored by the difficulty. I breezed through the game first try, then got my ass kicked by level 1 on Masters Mode.

Glad you enjoy it!
Just wait until you beat the game... A very nasty surprise awaits :D
As for the soundtrack, I think Gamemusic.com has it in stock for 27.99, or you could buy the bootleg on ebay for 9.99...
As for the music, I do think it is the greatest original VG soundtrack of all time. Flyin' to Your Heart (Stage 2) is my absolute favorite VG song of all time. After hearing it about 1000+ times, I still can't get enough of it!

@sisko - Normal mode is a total breeze. When you get to Master Play, you're gonna eat some of those attack lines so bad. They are that difficult.
I've beat both Frequency and Amplitude about 4 times and they don't even compare to the difficulty of Gitaroo Man.
I got this game in the mail on Monday and I just cleared Master Play earlier on today. I've been playing only about an hour a day so I'm really proud that I beat it so quickly. Maybe it helped that I play guitar (I'm awesome at Frequency/Amplitude), but I'm not sure how I got through so quickly.
It only got hard on Flyin' To Your Heart and then it got worse from there. Mojo King Bee was a total bitch but words can't describe the pain that is the San Bone Trio. @_@
After Bone to Be Bone it was still fairly hard but I wrapped the game soon after.

I still couldn't beat the Shark level. He kept kicking my ass hard core, but my girlfriend managed, so I beat the Shark Form 2 level and am now at the San Bone Trio who have been continuously kicking my ass for about the last half hour.
I gave up on them and went back to some of the easier levels. The learning curve is amazing! I can now breeze through a song that stumped me only two hours ago!

You know, I still have Gitaroo Man sealed from the CC sale. I just haven't had time to play it, or the other games I picked up. But hearing how much you like it has me thinking I may open it up this weekend and give it a whirl.

This is one hell of a great game. I saw it at the CC near me but didn't pick it up since I already had it ;D. I've only gotten through the first 4 levels though, LoL! There's some level where you're on a submarine or something and a shark or something that can swim fast is throwing notes of RAPE up your ASS. I've never been able to beat it.

Man oh man do i love Gitaroo man! I bought it at the CC sale too, though I'd glady pay $50 for it, it's just that good. If you guys think the Sambone trio is hard...just wait until the next level!

After the San Bone Trio the game basically eases up on you.
Another great thing about Gitaroo-Man is the multiplayer (2-4 players!). Just awesome! 8-)
