Has anyone ever come up on live tournament matches where this happens? I always wanted to be in a crowd that does that. I crack up at this video everytime I see it, as well as the Evolution 2003 DVD where this happens way too much.

Sorry I'm missing something what's so special about this clip?

It's the crowd. They like to shout "HEY!" on every hit of a huge combo.

It glorifies the winnerr...

and embarasses the loser.

Never noticed anyone doing this at arcade I've been to but they were mostly dead anyways. I don't really understand why you'd want to see a arcade tourny anyway. Gimme some old fashion FOOTBALL!!!

Arcade tourneys with good players are easily the match for football in terms of tactics, mindgames, and skill.

I dont know, do tourny playes have end zone dances too? LOL But I've never found watching a video competition anyfun. Most if not all that I've seen have been too one sided. I don't really care "competition when there isn't any.

Wow, someone else here besides me and uber has seen this. Nice job Richter. :)

It's pretty funny how the crowd goes insane because they wanted to see Justins turtle style Chun lose.

Yes, the arcades are dead in America. But not in Japan, where the movie in the first link was shot from. But tourneys are just fun like Ubersaurus said. Whether it'd be console or arcade.

That Daigo/Justin Wong thing was insane, being able to parry Chun Li's super that fast is like walking through a hail of needles and coming out unscratched! Geez I have never heard the crowd roar that loud before!!!

Hehe, funny clip. I liked the one starcraft clip tournament I have. There is this bad ass korean with these shades and some uber future looking suit on and he beats DOWN the other guy. When he starts taking out his opponents base the announcers start to FUCKING SCREAM.

OHASHALKJAK!!!!!!!!!!

LoL. They get so excited. There was even a crowd watching the tournament with little party wavers and balloons and shit. Why do they love starcraft so much? They even have the damn characters on bags of CHIPS.....crazy korea.

Cool stuff.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's I would go anywhere in state to play in Cyberball tournaments ! Video games and futuristic football all rolled into one.

Oh yes and I owned anybody I played.

Sure give me a minute to look it up and I'll edit it into this post.

JEEZ, that was tough to find again. Looks like it works! It's kinda boring throughout but fast foward towards the end where he rushes and the announcer's are pretty funny. The winner is also hilarious. He just wins, and wins with style.

Agreed. Holy crap. How many parries were there? Then to have the presence of mind for the air block the last hit to setup his own combo-into-super for the win? Dear gods...

Well that justin wong one was interesting, but like it says I guess I had to be there. I liked it better then the other becouse Wong, or who ever, was countering rather then wining by a super attack that wasn't blocked right.

Hellvins vid is pretty good, but thats just becouse the announcer is freaking out.

Thanks Captain, one of the best shows ever, and longest running. Sadly no one outside of Arizona knows who the these people are.

Daigo was the one doing the god-parrying. Wong wanted to do some flashy finisher, hoping that the tick damage would him Daigo. Guess Wong was Wrong

i really like to just be quiet, that really freaks the oponent out.

you're talking with the champ from super street fighter 2 in mexico. out of about 3500 competitors i did finished up on top. Anyhoo, here in my hometown a lot of people whooped my ass. LOL

EDIT:omg i just saw the daigo video, damn that's just awesome.

Call me old school Street Fighter (the latest game I'm good at is SF2 Turbo), but what is "parrying"? I see the video but to me it just looks like he's blocking... is there a difference? :?

soniko_karuto
08-20-2004, 05:30 PM
i believe it's a timed block.

if you have played snk vs capcom, you get points for stuff like that.

example: hadoken goes your way.

since it comes out, you block. it gives you a D
you block at about 3 chars of distance. a C
you block at about 1 char of distance. a B or A
you block when it hits, you also get 0 damage. S or SS.

i believe it must be something like that.

A parry is when you push forward instead of back to block. And yes, it's timed. You have to tip forward as soon as the attack makes contact. It's very difficult to do on normal moves much less SAs.

However, not to belittle Daigo's ungawdly play, Chun-Li's SA2 is one of the easier SAs to parry out. It's the jumping parry that is really crazy and the fact that "The Beast" did it with 0% health that makes it truely awesome.

Too bad he laid down to KO's Yun in the finals.

The first clips nice... the real last time i was in an arcade was a few years back and i was a killer on SFIII.. i love it when the crowd start cheering and going crazy, most of the crowd probably play SF, and can appreciate what the winning fighter is doing thats why they shit there pants so much!! LOL

and if you can't shit your pants for that, then just go take a dump, the normal way!!... no not on the toilet, but on your opponents head heheh O_O

Parry is a move that deflects your enemy's atack. When an opponent executes any type of attack, being normal, ex or super art, press forward(down for low attacks) in the proper time and you donnot receive any damage. Apart of not receivind any damage you have a certain time of advantage over your oponent because he or she is still in the attack move and you can execute an attack. This is very, very important and adds a huge level of tactics for the game, one of the best SF games ever, if not the best.

The greatness of that Daigo video is that he made a comeback for SFIII, also that super being parried is used mostly on combo exibitions, but he did it in actual tournament. Daigo is one of the best in Japan, he is also GGXX champion an ST champion there.

Shameless article plug...but I figure you guys might dig it since we're on the subject :D

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6103845/index.html

Check the results portion for some more vids from this year's competition (I recommend the Super Turbo vid which, once again, features Daigo).

You really did have to be there (bad pun). EVERYONE in the crowd thought the match was over just before the super (even if they won't admit it). It takes nerves of steel to pull that sort of come back off in that environment.

MarkMan

Haha, yes, that's been going on since last year.

They even did the same chant for Tekken 4 and Tekken Tag whenever Julia/Michelle would do an elbow combo.

OK now that I've thought about it about the Yun video that I posted, now I can clearly tell why I think it's so funny.

At the end of the video, it's when the guy just holds out that last "HEEYYY" and descends his voice while the background bursts into a bunch of lights, y'know the exploding background when a character is finished off with a super move?

About that Tekken thing, you got a short clip for it? I don't know, but ever since I borrowed my friend's Evolution 2k3 DVD, I just got an obsession of making noise in sync with the rhythm of big combos and infinites in fighting game. It's really been going on much longer than last year really, Japanese crowds been doing it for a long time even before last year's Evolution, is when the US had been catching on to that, or from watching Super Battle Opera matches, and they sit behind their PC's and they're like "wow, that sounds cool"
