Alright, I have a Sega CD version 2, and for some reason it won't work in one room of my house. If I move to another room, I can get it to work, but only if I have the AC adapter in a certain configuration.

I've tried moving the configurations around in the one room where it wasn't working at all, but no luck.

My question, what the hell is going on? Is my Sega CD busted, or is my house having strange electrical problems?

sounds more like its your house wiring than your sega cd or ps. i live in an older home and i know that there are several different outlet types here, usually its the third grounding hole or lack of. in addition outlets on one side of my house are set up for heavy load items like air conditioners and the others arent. dont know if that helps but maybe it will help point you in the right direction, also you should go into more detail about the configurations.

Well, I'm thinking now that it's the Sega CD AC adapter, and I don't have another lying around, and they are a bitch to find.

I dunno, this is the second Sega CD that has been failing me.

Hmmm, try it in a friend's house...try to rule out possibilities.

I'm pretty sure it's the power supply now, I've gotten it to work, then I'd move it, and then it wouldn't work. And it randomly works sometimes then as well.

Well, it could be that the Sega CD is flaky as well.

I have to leave for the time being, hopefully I'll think of something, or maybe you guys will.

I thought I'd bump this up, as well as ask this question.

Does the 1602-22-1 AC adapter (Input: 120v Output:9v 1.2DC) the only one that works with the Sega CD?

Yea I had the same problem that you did. I just hooked it up to a different outlet and it worked fine for me.

Well, I'm gonna just purchase a new AC adapter off of Sega-parts.com and see how that works out.

you say that when you move it stops working?

then it's teh cable that goes to the genny. i had the same problem with the snes and genny power supplys.

ig you have the screwdriver, than open it up, and check for continuity on the cable, if you notice some kind of problem, write down wich cable color is on wich soldering spot and desolder it. then strip away about 2 inches of the cable, and see if it was there where it was damaged and check for continuity again.

repeat the 2 inches step until you find the culprit (almost always at the first or second attempt) and you should be fine.

if you are afraid of doing it, just think about it this way "it was already broken"
