I just beat Tales of Symphonia. It took 40 hours. It was one of the best RPG's I've played in a while. Anyone else out there beat it?

Yup! :D

Loved it. Took me 49 hours. If I can ever pull myself away from Bujingai (beat it once, but can't stop playing) I may start up my New Game+ in Tales.

Why does on the back of the box it says 80 hours of game play. I know it includes all side quests but i only missed a few and it still took a little less then 40. Do they not fly and walk everywhere when they time this game?

aremid23

Not sure. Are you sure you did *all* of the side quests? I bought the guide (because I thought I wanted to do them) and there are TONS. And honestly, only about 3-4 sounded all that great.

Yea i got the guide too i missed just a few, i did at least 75% of them. I know i missed the biggest one i started it then gave up. It would have only taken me about an hour though. Collecting all the figurines would take about 10-15 hours, but still it doesnt add up to 80 quite yet either.

Hmmm, then that is odd. Maybe what you said earlier is the case - about them rating the time by traveling everywhere on foot.

Did you rebuild Luin? I thought I would at first... until I saw how much $$$ it would take and how much time it would have added.

Oh! Oh! It gets much, much better story-wise. Plus, it gets more fun to battle the more you level up and find cool new weapons. If you can find the time, I highly recommend it.

I didn't rebuild Luin but i had enough money to the entire game i ended with somewhere around 175,000.

I just made it to the second world when I got sidetracked by Lunar again lol. That happens once in a while.

My friend beat it in around 70.

My guess is the top hours numbers come from getting as many titles as you can on one run-through, filling out the monster guide and other "collectibles"

playing with guides is for wussies.

you should play dragon warrior without any kind of aid. it will take you about a day at least.

I think that more applies to the sequels than the original Dragon Warrior.

I'm about thirty hours into it, and I'm not to the second disc yet. I must REALLY be slow. I'm lovin' it, but I was hoping to finish it before school starts (Monday). Doesn't look like that will happen, so I fear I may NEVER finish this one.

No story spoilers, but if you REALLY dont want to know what's up, BEWARE......

I'm on the Earth temple. How much farther do I have before I'm on the second disc?

I want to buy the game, as I collect RPG's, and this is pretty much the only one on the list at the moment.

No money now, and Burnout 3 has much higher priority :o

Is there really any link between the Tales series besides the name?

Tons of stuff

Predominance of parallel-world settings
Battle system is the same
Cooking in both
Same restorative items
Same spell/technique names
Craymels/Summon spirits
Same spell alignments

I got a new Tales of Symphonia LE Gamecube from yesasia.com for $199 including shipping last year.

It's pretty cool:

Haven't bought the English version of the game though but it is on my list.

I'm not very far into this game, but it's threatening to get tossed aside. So far the dialogue is a bit poor, and Collette's voice sounds like a spoiled rich girl talking about an excursion to the mall. The storyline seems somewhat adult, but the dialogue and perspective seem like they're geared towards someone around the age of nine or so. Not sure if I'll ever finish this game.

BTW, for reference, I'm on my way to the first seal at this point. I think the last thing I did was free Lloyd from the Desian prison and get Raine as a playable character.

Normally. No. But Symphonia is the exception, because it's a direct prequal to "Tales of Phantasia". Also there's the "Tales of the World" (gameboy)games which are loose sequals to Phantasia.

And then there's "Tales of Destiny" and "Tales of Destiny 2" (PS2 not the American release of Eternia). Which I would imagine have linking stoylines.

Yeah, after the time-traveling antics of Phantasia, how can you have a sequel to that. Can I ask what the connection is please?

Actually they do a good job of making gameplay heavily related to the story.

The dual worlds
The craymels/summon spirits are divided between the worlds, 4 in each, and have to be convinced to join you.

And Wise, yeah the story is really hokey, but it DOES get better, I swear.

I am someone who really enjoyed ToS. With that said, is there a good chance that I would also enjoy Tales of Destiny or Tales of Destiny 2? If it helps, I loved the battle sytem in ToS most of all.

Also, what system is Tales of Phantasia for?

Tales of phantasia is for the super famicom and later for the playstation (with added video). As for tales of destiny 1 and 2 give them a try. I personally didn't like them as much as Symphonia but their still good games.

Oh yeah it's also out for GBA.

I'm sorry I made a mistake, then I said there were teo Tales of the World games I was mistaken. There's "Tales of Phantasia: Nakiri Dunegon" for the GBC which is a sequal to Tales of Phantasia, the storyline invloves two children 100 years after the events that take place in ToP. There's also "Tales of the World: Nakiri Dunegon 2" for the GBA which revolves around the descendant of Klarth from ToP.

Aremid23: I don't think Testment made it clear but Phantasia's only availible in Japanese for the PSX and GBA. You can always download the translated rom of the Super Famicom version however. But if you liked Symphonia for the battle system you'll equally enjoy either Destiny game.

Yeah sorry that i didn't state that it was import only. I thought you would have guessed just by seeing super famicom. You can always still play tales of Phantasia (in english) off of a emulator. Plus it's in the air about a possiable u.s release of phantasia for the gba.
