With the release of Mortal Kombat for the GC here, I felt this was a good time to reflect on the past of a truly great series in gaming history. From the controversial release of Mortal Kombat, to the latest, including the gc version if you have played it yet.

For me it would have to be Mortal Kombat II, although I could do without the Friendships, and Babalitys, there's something about this one that stands out to me.
The choice of 2 Fatality’s per character that gave you that extra bit of suspense waiting to see which would be performed, The larger character selection, No run button, among others.

What are your thoughts?

MK2, by far.

how could you do without friendships and babalities. that provides comic relief, and extra humiliation for a defeated opponent.

2 was the best, but 1 holds a special bloody spot right next to my heart.

MKII is the best. Yup, that's a fact. (MK3 was the worst of the series.)

I am excited about the new one though. Can't wait to play the finished version.

(MK3 was the worst of the series.)

i have to disagree with that. i actually enjoyed MK3. MK4 is far worse.

Whoops, I didn't mean to sound like I don't like MK3, I do. I just like it less than all the rest. But I definitely like MK4 more than 3. Now if we're talking Ultimate 3, then the positions are reversed.

BEST
MKII
MK
Ultimate MK3
MK4
MK3
WORST

I ave to stay with MK1 as the best. I LOVED MK2, but the entire game was just too cartoony. I liked the 100% realistic way the first one is done. I thought everything after MK2 was pretty lame.

MK2 is for sure

But any Street fighter(Even the Movie Version) IS by FAR BETTER! LOL J/k I just think SF is a way, way better series, and I hate it when my friends run off at the mouth about MK. Its good, but not the best around, how is the new deadly alliance?

While I was into MK3 the most back in the day, it wasn't that great of a game, in retrospect. It was fun, but the run button was pointless, the mood of MK2 was gone, and some the characters were laughable. Nightwolf? Sure, a stereotypically dressed Native American in a dark, Eastern-themed fighting game. Why not? And don't get me started on Stryker, the riot cop.

Yes, MK2 is my favorite. Truthfully, I've never been all that fond of the series, even though I'd like to try out Dark Alliance.

And since it's fun to rank stuff . . .

1. Mortal Kombat II
2. Mortal Kombat Trilogy
3. Ultimate MK3
4. Mortal Kombat
5. Mortal Kombat3
6. Mortal Kombat 4
7. Mortal Kombat Special Forces (not sure on the title --it starred Jax.)
8. MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero

The amount of money I've spent in the arcade on MK2.... I could've bought the damn cabinet! MK2 is the best in the seris I'd say.

As for the worst... well... Mortal Kombat Advance... it looked good, but oh god was that soo horrible.

My favorite had to be the Playstation version of MK Trilogy.Loved being able to play as Goro or Kintaro.I never played MK in the arcades.
Just seemed like it wasn't something you could pop a coin in and pick up right away. With MK success depends largely on knowing and implementing the special moves. If you don't,the computer ( or another more seasoned player ) tends to walk all over you.I never knew the moves by heart nor did I wish to take time memorizing themuntill the home versions came out.Seemed an awful lot of trouble for just an arcade game. But that's just me.Street Fighter and the other games in the series seemed more accomadating to newbies.

I prefer MK2, but frankly I stopped trying to play them after UMK3. The first one is still the best for that rip-yer-spinal-cord-out fun, though.

On a similar note, I noticed that MK4 is 3D with fairly well done human models. Why doesn't someone try to do a virtua fighter style game with realistic looking human characters? Am I the only one who thinks this would be really cool looking?
