I have an SNES with a broken plug where the power supply goes. I am referring to the round plug right on the system. The power supply itself is fine. The SNES works if you hold the male plug in the right position in the SNES.

I realize that this plug is on a plastic piece attached to the other outputs, etc. I am looking either for a whole replacement for this or just the part where the power goes in. I am guessing it is a generic piece at Radio shack or something.

Any help is appreciated.

I have an entire SNES system shell (no electronics inside and no yellowing)

If interested let me know.

The jack part is soldered directly to the motherboard. If there are no guts, there is no usable jack.

You can do two things. Pinch the two little prongs inside the jack together, and it should work reasonably well. Or, you can solder off the old jack and plate (it's just a plate, the video connector stays in place and is un tampered with), and replace it with an undamaged one.

I do have spare undamaged ones, stuck to boards that have other issues. I could take one off for you, and send it. I'd do it for a trade of some commonish dupe I don't have. :)

If that pixel dropping SNES above this is yours, I recommend stealing the AC plug part from it. It's got serious problems.

on some US systems the plug itself is removeable from the plastic since the peg itself is lose and only soldered to the pcb otherwise you need to desolder it and use a dremel style tool to remove it by force and then glue a new one into place (quite easy done this lots of times) ill even post a howto with pictures the next time i get a US snes to mod :)

I imagine the plug would be easy enough to remove. My main problem is finding a replacement part. Where can I get one, besides another SNES?

buy a normal powerplug female for PCB mounting and cut off the outer part of it (the Square part) and it will fit like a charm

Those other solutions above seem perfectly reasonable, but I can't see either option being easier than cannibalizing another SNES.

Broken consoles are easy to come by. Easier than ordering a specific part from Digi Key.

Nevertheless, it's cool to know of all the different ways to skin this cat. :D

Yep, I would just a use a broken SNES. I don't believe that plug was a common type....I remember being pissed my universal AC adapter didn't work with it...
