Yeppers. I asked her about the Escape From Supercade carts I and 24 others won a couple years back, and she claims they're actually still working on them. I guess we'll see; I'm hopeful!

She was the woman walking around with the baby stroller and Seamus Blackley :)
She was doing the Garbo thing: hair completely covered up, big mirror sunglasses... but I recognized her right away. We talked for awhile over a game of Night Driver. Seems I was the only person who recognized her and DIDN'T ask about either the Supercade books or the games she owes everyone.
Seamus did play a part in the success of this years' show as well. To both of them I am grateful.

About the articles and the Q if 'retro'-gaming is a passing fad:
It's not a passing fad. The interest in classic games is unlike wearing a shirt or pants from the 70s.
First, there are unchanged deep motivations playing games. The motivation is the same: CHALLENGE and competition. Classic games provide a simpler challenge and therefore deliver unique game experiences.
Second, the more modern games go in the direction of complexity and non-linearity, they create a vacuum which only older games can fill. Successful modern games with unique game exeriences keep older games alive.
Third, a successful industry today keep the interest in older eras of gaming alive and is THE recruitment of younger gamers intersted in classic gaming. Game development was and is gradual. It is almost natural to go back and play older games of the same genre or prequels.
We are witnessing that gamings past becomes established, recognized, and expands in very aspect.

O_O :hmm: x_x
You'll have to forgive me as I vacillate between skepticism & profound disbelief. I was one of the "winners" of one of these vaporware Escape From Supercade carts (Cart #7, to be exact) and waited patiently for 2.5 to 3 years for this cart to materialize and it never did. The last time I checked Ebivision's (the game developer) website about a year ago they had a version of this page (http://atarivcs.free.fr/ebivision/games-power-off.htm) up which said something along the lines of "the game was going to a limited edition giveaway, but that never happened, so we've changed the name and we're gonna sell it now." If Ebivision is making and selling the carts now under this different name, why would they bother going back to the original plan?
Secondly, the official site (http://www.supercade.com/supercade.html) for Van's book used to have a subsection called "Supercade" which promoted the cart, listed the winners from CGE2000 and had updates regarding the current state of the cart's release. As you can see that section no longer exists.
You can make the argument that it's bad form to bitch about not getting a freebie. I guess I just feel rather let down by Mrs. Burnham's (non)handling of the whole situation: No direct addressing of the situation, no offer of a consolation or alternative promotional item. She did not even deign to just say, "No carts. Too busy. I'm sorry". Just had to figure that one out for ourselves.
Before I get pounced, I understand that Van is or was close to a lot of the senior members of this board. And I further understand that she went through a great deal of changes in her life in the last few years with moving, starting a family etc. None of that changes the fact that IMHO she really let down some people in this community, myself included. So yeah, I spotted her at CGE2K4 as well, and I'm not surprised she was incognito.
(And for the record, I do own a copy of the Escape From Supercade book. Bought it from a local retailer for full list price to boot. I'm certain Van got her royalty and I was happy to give it since I was expecting to have the nifty prmotional item as well.)

Turner Broadcasting had a whole room set up just below the exhibit floor and interviewed people all day, both days. I'm not sure what they're running but keep an eye out on their programming.
There were a number of local stations on hand as well, not sure if/when they aired their stuff.
