I was just playing Metal Slug 3 for Xbox. One annoyance is that when you die you return to the beginning. The only way to get around that is to never die! Very possible if you have some skill. Yes, RCM has that skill.

Anyway, I havent played the PS2 version. Does anybody here have it? If you do, does it have the same annoying problem that the Xbox version has?

I can continue from where I die, for as long as I have credits, on my AES.

And unlike the Xbox version, so far my cart is worth more every day. LOL :P

Thats most likely do to the fact that it's the arcade version of the game. Why would you want to put in more quarters (coins, whatever) if you had to start from the beginning again?

I wouldn't. But it was my only exposure to the game. Somebody else said all the Metal Slug 3 versions were like that. It's clear that the MVS version isnt.

I hear that it's harder to read l337. Well, that wasn't l337, but hopefully scrambled enough that nobody will hold a terrible grudge against me for spoiling the game, or something, if they just glanced at that bit.

The PS2 version of Metal Slug 3 (I bought mine while I was in Korea) allows you to continue from the screen on which you last died. Pretty much just like the arcades. I'm not sure if there is a limit to how many times you can continue. I'm pretty sure I would've reached it if there were, as my skillz are not among the l337.

Unlike the arcade, it lets you choose which mission to start on and it lets you pick a difficulty level. It also lets you play something called "Fat Island" which I haven't had a shot at yet. (My six year old has been through this thing so many more times than I have.) I'll play it tonight and if it differs considerably from what I just said I will try to care enough to correct the misinformation I've disseminated and then go play it some more. Because I can. Heh.

just to confirm, yawp, PS2 version lets you continue. 5 wonderful missions and 78 continues. I can't even begin to understand the decision making process to change it for the Xbox version. No, that isn't an Xbox bash. I just wonder why they would change it.

maybe when 4 and 5 come out for xbox they will be more like the mvs...nothing worse than getting to the boss...getting owned..and starting alllllllllll over again...but yeah i usually plug in my 2nd controller and soon as i die on player 1...hit start with player 2...usually its the best way, as long as you got far enough with ure 1st player

Just curious, does the PS2 version of MS3 have slow down?

Oh, and is the bundle pack of 4+5 worth getting?

I'm not aware of my version having slow down. (The instructions and menus are all in Korean so maybe I just haven't stumbled onto it yet.)

Is MS 4+5 out for PS2 in Japan? Cool! I didn't know, so I can't answer your second question.

I know what you mean. The continue system makes it way too hard to finish. I wish it was more like the continue system for MSX on the PSX.

It isn't obvious?

The game has no longetivity if you can just keep continuing to beat it. They made it so that you actually have to get good at it to beat it. That keeps people coming back to it. I got Slug X on PS1 and barely play it because I can beat it easy, but Slug 3? I like trying to beat it, because you have to WORK for it.

Challenge. It's a great thing.

Slug games have always been great... me and my freind completed it with about 35 credits each (MS2) and it was worth it....... kinda

Some people say MS4 is all the ms's chucked into a big blender ie its just recycled levels and bosses but its good

MS5 hm..... ive heard thats not very good........

Why can you beat it easily? Because there is a "better" continue system? Try not losing any lives in Metal Slug X. You might find a greater challenge then merely hitting continue all the time. Just b/c there are continues does not mean the game is any less challenging. Take that challenge (losing no lives) and see how "easy" Metal SLug X is.

In the Xbox version does your score reset when you use a continue?

I was thinking of how it would work with the online ranking system?

Is competition fierce on the leaderboards?

I loved that aspect of Burnout 2. I played that for months after I beat it and would normally have put it aside.
