Im a very big fan of the Final Fantasy series, and finally decided to get out some cash this week and get X-2... i just started it tonight and it doesnt feel much like a Final Fantasy to me...
The intro movie was very unlike a FF Game, pretty much a music video if you ask me, very mainstream..... (which i wasnt too keen on...)
Also i was disapointed that Yuna now has Guns instead of her usual weapon...
i havent got very far yet so i havent decided if i like it or not yet, but what are your opinions on it?
is it a good way for the final fantasies to go?
is it a let down/shame on the FF Name?

i was disgusted by this game. The sole factor that it received high reviews in some magazines made me lose my faith in modern-day video game magazines. which hype games beyond their real quality (Doom 3 is another example).
I felt like i was playing a "charlie-s angels" videogame..

The story does keep that cheesy feel going throughout most of the game, so if you don't like it now you won't like it later. Although if you really like the world of FFX (like I do), then it's definately worth playing through.
As for the actual gameplay itself, I'd say it's pretty good. The combat is very fast-paced, and there are a lot of different abilities you can get to keep it interesting. The game is dissapointingly easy though. And if you plan on completing all the sidequests and getting the best ending, you'll be playing for a LONG time. My final save was at about 125 hours. :P

X-2 was def not a true final fantasy game in feeling...but there are worse games out there. Maybe if X was better X-2 would be a worthy sequal

While I don't think the game is quite as good as the magazines made it out to be, I liked the game. To enjoy it tho, you have to do more than just the 'Hotspot' missions, as a lot of the storylines from FFX come through and are continued in this game. I thought it was kinda fun to see what happened in the two years (game time) since FFX.
However, if you didn't like Final Fantasy X, I'd probably have to say avoid this one.
Hated it, played through 2/3 of the game and never had fun. Didn't like the stoy teling, enimies were old, its like I've seen every thing before which I had, with few unnotable exceptions.

Not as dissapointing as Secret of Nevermore...... but next to that, probably the most dissapointing game created by Squaresoft yet. IMHO

I loved it, I agree that it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously and the gameplay is action packed. My favorite part was the voice overs after the fights, the clever little jokes thrown in were actually funny and memorable.
FFX2 was a fun departure from the heavy handed seriousness the series is fraught with.

Real Emotion, the song from the beginning, is kickass in Japanese.
1,000 Words also isn't bad.
The game itself is fun, though I was dissapointed that you don't seem to get any special bonuses for mastering a dressphere. I've always liked the job system, when it isn't screwed up with items (FFTA, I'm looking in your direction). I wouldn't try to get 100%, since a lot of things, like the Number Dungeon From Hell, would be hideously annoying, but exploring and doing all the fun things there are to do takes an impressive amount of time. I'll have to give it another play-through sometime, since I have the feeling I missed a lot.

It would be neater if I didn't die constantly. :/
Have to say though, for a shitty game I really like the box art.

When I saw Final Fantasy X-2 come into my store I almost impulse bought it. Later after reading up on it on several forums and hearing about it from friends I pretty much figured I was better off drinking battery acid mixed with cyanide, rat poison, shredded screws, dog shit, dead flies, chopped up monkey eyeballs and mud. In fact that goes for most current gen games.
Nah fuck that! I need my sequel to Van Helsing now.

Never seen that cart before. Did Nintendo release it in the States, as they did with other Square games of the late 80's?
And the red head looks cute. ;)

King's Knight was one of Square's first NES games that they published themselves; it did come out in the states. It just wasn't very popular, but it is a cool game, I think.
As for X2, when I saw coverage of that in some gaming magazing in Border's 6 months ago or whatever, I was inflamed. Everything I feared about the gaming industry is coming true, and that game is a prime example of it. I'll never touch it, both out of principal and the fact that it looks friggin' retarded.

I wonder if someday we'll see things like FF 47-part 4 or FF 53-9. Boy that will be interesting. LOL

FF9 is still one my favs, maybe equel to FF6. Anyhow to this day I still find myself having to motivate myself more just to play FF X and sometimes X-2. They look good but don't have much of that FF feel, ya know?

I know what you mean, I went though X twice and stopped at the same part, soon as I hit mount gagazette I just loose interest...Not that its a horrid game...the story was kinda lame. Kinda like FF on-line...tried it, hated it. It's only FF in name and theres chocobos and moogles in it.. :o

You know, I never finished it either. I don't have that much time to play anymore, and I felt that the game just dragged on incessently with the same old garbage. And a lot of the "game-within-a-game"-type stuff was really irrelevant to the rest of the game and really just kind of sucked (blitzball? I hate sports.) It killed my interest in Final Fantasy. In my opininon, they peaked out at 7, but not because of the new interface; it was because the setting was really interesting. The post-apocalyptic environment with high technology was better than a lot of other games that used that idea (like Phantasy Star...not that I'm knocking PS by any means), and the environmental ethics that the game brought up were really cool. It was one of the first console games I played to have a story that analogous to real life.
That's my rant for the day. :D
