I try NOT to think about but there have been times when I couldn't help but wonder.

When I bring home a find the first thing I do is thoroughly clean it, even before I see if it works. My game room smells like rubbing alcohol and 409.

You never know if that 6 switch 2600's previous address was a roach and rat infested crackhouse. Or if the last hands all over the joystick belonged to a chronic masterbator.

I try to avoid the really grubby stuff but if it's something I need and hard to find, well what can you do?

I just really DON'T want to know what some of those stains have been.

I'd suggest cleaning anything that's used. That should be a standard thing for anyone. However, I don't think wasting your thoughts on who had them before you and where they might've stuck them isn't something you should really worry about. I doubt anyone was ever infected with a disease or whatnot because of a used game! :-)

Although ... I could be wrong ;p

I remember a girl in school that used to do funny things with joysticks. CLEAN THEM WELL.

She probably would get top dollar for them on eBay...

Next time you'll know better than to buy your joysticks from Sothy!

Killing Furrys in Texas is a misdemeanor.

And for the record my games have COKE residue on them not crack.

chances are, according to the experts on these things, the money you used to buy the games has more ickiness on it than the games themselves. learn to live with germs, look what happened to howard hughes. you know studies have suggested that the filthy french have some the strongest immune systems going where as the sani-freaking japanese have the weekest. they laughed at pastuer you know...

I once decided to use a free classified ad (the sole perk of working for a newspaper) to advertise that I would buy old games. The only response I received was from a woman who offered me a box of about two dozen NES games and half as many Genesis titles. I didn't really want any of them, but after the seller claimed she was just going to throw it all away, I offered her five bucks for the lot.

After getting home and taking a closer look at the carts, I realized that most had dirt caked on them, as though some kid had mistaken the games for building blocks and left them outside in the mud. I shrugged and started cleaning. Five carts in, I found a live roach in the interface port of Super Mario Bros. 3.

No rats, though. That was a letdown.

Man the smell of your game room must get you high lol

I too have brought home carts that look as though they were thrown straight into the ground.

Working at a local used game store, I've seen some bad ones, some I think were used as coasters, or thrown over an open fire.

I try not to think about it.I have bought countless SNES and Genesis titles from Pawn shops.I honestly never thought to clean them but I have never gotten sick from handling them.Maybe it's just luck.

I try not to think what goes on at GameStop,or what the people who sell games to them do.Everytime I look at the NES carts, all I see is ripped lables and marker all over the cart. Some people.. >:( x_x

I've never been concerned about catching some funky disease from a used game however the collection shows better when sparkling clean than encrusted with years of accumulated dust.

I think the worst thing I've ever cleaned off a game was what appeared to be dried blood.

Blood is a bit suspicious. Maybe it was one of those "police confiscations?"

I've come across some pretty funky stuff on games--I've found loads of spider-webs, BBQ sauce, jelly, unidentifiable sticky goo (all the colors of the rainbow), dried snot, and one even had a suspicious white power all over it. I think it was flour, but I wasn't about to stick a bit of it in my mouth to find out. I might have been loopier than a hippie at a Dead concert. :Fade-color
