:)

Since there are still a few doubters I thought I'd set the record straight by releasing another previously unreleased prototype, Targ, which is an arcade port that was developed by CBS but to date unavailable.

The game is similar to Universal Chaos but you'll see that Telegames made some adjustments to the original game by changing the difficulty of the game as well as the design and number of enemy ships!

Have fun with this one, too, folks.

Can someone post a good screenshot or two? I'm at work, but I wanted to give a quick plug at Lost Levels.

As a guy who actually OWNS the upright arcade game, this really makes my day! (Although, I’m excited about the home version of the arcade game – which I have in my home. x_x )

Thanks again for the generosity! Safe to say that many of us do appreciate it!

ooh now this I like, and gets my attention.. 2600 arcade ports. X_x

The rest I file under the Chase the Chuckwagon category of forgettable slag. :P

Loved the arcade game. Will this be made into a cart and if so, available to purchase for those that can't get to these gaming expos?

I wish I could answer your question. I do not personally own the rights to this game so I can not legally sell it. I hope you can enjoy the game through emulation for now until those details are worked out by the particulars.

I hope this is the case. I consider this game a "lost classic" and definitely cart worthy. There aren't many proto reproductions or homebrews I would consider buying but Targ would be a must have for Atari collectors. Good luck!

THANK YOU! :)

You're welcome, but I'm starting to think that there's a guy out there who owns what he believes to be the only working copy of Targ and planning to make some money on the game who is not quite as appreciative.

You can't please everyone. You're either hoarding the ROM or you're crushing someone else's profits. Hopefully the true gamers out there can get some satisfaction from the game itself without all of the drama that surrounds its release.

It's always interesting to see how an arcade game fares on the old VCS. Nice find!

I used to love this game. I remember playing it all the time in a local bowling alley back when I was like 10 or so. I agree about it being a forgotton / lost classic.

Look what all the drama has gone and made me do - I've finally registered and made my first post to DP!

Being a guest here, I'm pretty much gonna keep my big yap shut regarding all of the back and forth that's been going on. Still, I did think it appropriate to pipe in and say thanks for today's releases. They are very much appreciated. You're a good guy Joe.

I dunno if this is because my 7800 is PAL, but occasionally when finishing a round, the machine crashes when using the ROM on my CC2. Curious... not seen a problem in Z26 or Stella...

If you're searching for the drama that was previously embedded in this thread, I've done a little housekeeping and moved them here:

If you don't want to talk about the game itself, please do it in that other thread, thanks.

Hey thanks a bunch but like the Meltdown prototype I posted on the same day, there are others who should get the credit. In this case, it's Scott Stilphen, who took the long ride to meet the game's designer and secure the ROM.

By the way, welcome to the forums!

Yeah, Thanks!

What will we do when two people come up with an unreleased ROM in the future then go through the trouble of printing up box art and assembling carts, and whoops, now we have two releases at the same time! Which one to buy? This could happen. Will we implode? Erm, no, probably both will eventually STILL sell out their load (as long as they have less than 250 of them.) Let's hate each other for fun then!

When will the hack 'DP vs. AA' be completed? What will it be? Warlords? And will they be throwing a little ROM image around at each other? Or how about DP Invaders, a Space Invaders hack where you shoot at the letters 'D I G I T A L P R E S S' ?
