I did'nt believe this when I saw this on Gamespot's recent Rumor Control, but I got this from the official web site:

I also wanted to point out this post. That reply was much funnier when the video game chicks had the breats that looked like they could slice your hand open (Tomb Raider 1 anyone?). Now polygon boobies don't really look all that different from "real" ones. And I use the term real very loosely because more often then not the real in this context refers to disporporinate silicone implants.

That's a very interesting quetion.

I doubt the polygons are gonna look fake...Probably better than FInal Fantasy the movie, is my guess.

As far as drawings go (moreso in the ads and such, not the game)....Bloodrayne probably has the best bod I've seen in videogames. Pretty stylish threads too. Any others characters I've seen so far in videogames are too cartoonish looking or polygonal. Or odd...like FFX-2.

But anyway, that's all just from an artistic standpoint. A naked computer model in a nudy mag is indeed rather odd...I'm not exactly sure if it's perverse though, considering all the fake body parts on women now (devil's advocate there...).

I'd say it's a step sideways, since neither belong in that kind of magazine. However, I personally think airbrushed pictures are worse because (1) it's pretending to be real and (2) I can't help but think the picture was better before someone messed with it.

After a really terrible first couple of levels (note to any potential game developers reading this: NO MORE SWAMP LEVELS. EVER.) Bloodrayne gets really good, if a bit easy.

It's really gory when she whips out her berzerker fury attacks and (somewhat) realistically gibs nazis with her arm blades. Also, any time you're feeling low on health, you can just jump on the nearest nazi and drink him, while using him as a human shield and shooting over his shoulder as the life drains from his body. This makes the game very easy if overused, but never stops being fun.

It does wear out its welcome by the last couple of levels (OH GOOD ANOTHER SPOOKY DECREPIT CASTLE), and the stupid character names (Mince? MINCE?) really got to me. The final boss fight is pretty well done, though.

Also, since it's got a Tomb-Raider style 3d camera, you're going to spend a lot of time looking at polygonal ass. May as well be one that's pleasing to the eye.

Also worth noting is that if you played Terminal Reality's Nocturne, or their Blair Witch game, Bloodrayne fits in with the mythos established in those two titles.

As for the actual article/photospread itself, the whole thing is no more than 5-6 pages, counting the 'fold-out' poster of "Luba Licious" from the upcoming "Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude" game.


The only nudes/topless characters in total are:


Bloodrayne (topless)

Tala (nude)

Luba Licious (nude - the only character showin' the shaved kitty. lol)

An unknown "Playboy" Model game character (nude - holding a joystick, no less)

Dixie from the upcoming "Rumble Roses". (topless, but she's covering her nips and the image itself is only the size of a forum 'avatar' picture/half the size of a trading card)

They also have pictures of Nina Williams (Death By Degrees), Kurenai (Red Ninja), Mileena (MK: Deception) and Ayane (DOA:XBV), but the artwork for these characters was the regular promo artwork which would be found in any video game publication or website and they're not exposing themselves in any way.



Overall, I feel kinda' ripped off because I thought the whole feature on "Gaming Grows Up" would have featured more characters and bigger images. Plus, it seems like Playboy is trying to become like a 'jack-of-all-trades' type of publication by trying to feature video game reviews. (Sorry "Hef". Leave that coverage to the professional video game magazines and just keep showin' edited/airbrushed pics of beautiful women)

Playboy HAS been doing game reviews -- as well as running adds for systems and games -- for over 20 years. If you check the website of the Blue Sky Rangers, the programers for the Intelivison, they mention in their section on Utopia that the first good review of the game came from Playboy, which also gave it their 'Game of the Year' award. :)

This, however, was a interesting experiment -- and as I guessed in my very first post when I posted this note, it won't go over very well. :P

This is probably not a topic I should be delving into for reasons you'll see in a moment, but oh well, we're all friends here, right?

The thing about Playboy is that it claims to be a bit higher-brow than the average pornography. In order to do this, it tends to NOT have pictorials featuring true porn stars. As such, fake breasts and collagen implants are a rarity in Playboy, at least from what I remember due to my experiences with it in the 90's.
