If/when you play FF1, what's your fav party config you use?

All 4 black belts. Its rough at first but once you get higher in lvl you are unstoppable.

4 black mages is fun too, hard at first but once you start getting Fir2 and up you become unstoppable.

4 fighters is interesting, because you never take damage

We have done it with 4 white mages and beat the game....don't do that....when we finally made it to Chaos he Cure4'ed on us 4 times.

Our current project is one fighter, its doable, but tough. The best thing is you never have to buy a soft potion LOL

(This is not using roms, this is NES)

I only played through FF1 once, and I used

Fighter
Theif
Black Mage
White Mage

I always viewed the Red Mage as useless, and the Black Belt always turned me off because of the inability to use a lot of the weapons.

Maybe that topic about the Hot Topic hot pants has corrupted my mind, but I read the title of this topic as "FF1 panties". o_O

Yes that thread has probably corrupted you, although I kind of thought the same thing myself.

As for FF like someone else already said I think a Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage and whatever you want for a 4th person works out great. If someone is really bored maybe they should try a 4 thief party.

I'm about half-way through FFI (I think) for the first time (playing on the PS FF Origins version). So what's the deal with the Thief? Is he ever more than a weak Fighter?

Thief evolves into Ninja, an evasion beast. Think fighter with a bit less damage that rarely gets hit. This is if memory serves correctly.

I prefer the Fighter/Red Mage/Black Mage/White Mage combo because I'm a magic whore.

I think the Red Mage is under-appreciated. I used him in my most recent outing and found him to be pretty darn good.

I always have a fighter and a black mage. Beyond that you can pretty much pick and chose.

As a kid it was Fighter, Black Belt, WM, BM.

Now in FF1 on FF Origins its Fighter, Thief, WM, BM. Up to Galug Volcano now presently.

The max that can attack you is 4 :D

As for the black belt he does the most damage period (to a single target). The trick is to not give him a weapon after lvl 6-7. He can kill chaos in one hit at lvl 50.

The thief can pretty much always run, and I think his speed is higher so he goes first a lot.

Two Fighters, Black Mage and a Red Mage. Works pretty well. The trick in the big fights is to keep the Red Mage in the back and use him primarily in a support role administering potions and the like.

the thief is probably the weakest of the characters. That's why I kind of mentioned about a 4 thief party if any one has tried it. He does have the most speed of any of the characters and has the best chance of running. There attack is about average or slighty better. When you class change later in the games they can learn levels 1-4 Black Magic so at least they can have a few good spells like fast. With no healing and only a so so attack the later parts of the game are pretty hard I'm assuming. Especially the bosses when the only why you could heal is with those heal potions which only heal 30 HP which are kind of useless in boss fights.

Later in the game you don't use potions, only heal staff and the 2 heal helms. Atleast it does 30 to everyone.

See, I'm fond of Red Mage, Black Mage, Fighter and Thief as my chosen light warriors with White mage and Black Belt endless trailing after them trying to force them to actually collect the power orbs and heal both Corneria and Elfland.

8-Bit Theater completely OWNS. I haven't checked it out in ages, though...

Anyhoo, the party I used to beat the game the only time I played through it was the good ol' Fighter/Thief/White Mage/Black Mage combo. See... okay, this is a fubar comparison, but just bear with me here. This team is like a well-rounded giant mech, kinda like Ultraman, Optimus Prime, or even Goemon Impact! The Fighter represents the fists of the mech (power), the White Mage is like its backup systems (support), the Black Mage stands for its special abilities (even more power), and the Thief is that handy-dandy escape method, be it jetpack, jet boots, or even a matter transporter (escape), just in case. You really get a bargain after the class change as well, where all four members can now use magic. The Thief is the most improved when he becomes the Ninja, it's a complete makeover for him. Hell, his color palette even changes! LOL

It may be a little bit costly, but trust me, this is, in my humble opinion, the definitive team. The Red Mage might also make a good substitute for the Thief, eschewing easy escape for even greater magic support. I'm not too fond of the Black Belt myself, though. The Fighter is more than enough muscle for the team, and I think magic becomes of greater importance later on into the game. Don't take my word for all this, though... haven't played the game in ages...

Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage.

This is what I use. Either that or replace the Black Belt with a Thief...
