Am I allowed to be the thread stomper and say that this is only the second game I've sold after 3 hours of playing in the past 5 years? (Even if I don't care for a game I almost always keep it, I have to actually be offended at the stupidity of a game to sell it)
Worth $10-$15? Sure. More than that? No thanx. Overrated.

Sweet purchase! I completely forgot that this game came out this week. I'll have to pick it up when I get paid next week. I loved the GC version and am very eager to play as Dante in the PS2 version. :D

I borrowed the game a little while ago from a friend (For GC), and it was awesome. Only reason I stopped playing was that I was stopped by the difficulty of that shark boss. God, NO YOU MAY NOT HEAL. ERG.

Quick update, FANTASTIC! Nice port, according to some sites, they added in "Sweet" Mode (which you can select right at the start in the US PS2 verison) which was only in the re-release in Japan for Cube until now.

heh, i too never finished the game...i got to the part where the rockets come trudging towards you and you have to make that platform follow you over...it's been awhile. i liked it, but for some reason i guess not enough to beat it...i think i need to go play again.
i'm curious to see if the ps2 version suffers from slowdown or not?

I already have the Cube version (got it when it came out), and this new one doesn't have enough new content to warrant another purchase. I am eagerly awaiting VJ 2 though. :D

The slowdown that everyone talks about in the PS2 verison...The critics are crazy...I haven't ran into any sort of problems that they describe. The game runs quite smoothly in my honest opinion, comparing this to a demo of VJ that I played for Cube last X-mas, it feels and acts exactly the same. I just purchased it because it was one of those games i missed out on during the Holiday season and I don't have a Cube
I'm having a blast with it, yet Im stuck on the Shark boss..he's on my last nerve

Hardest final boss EVER, but one of the most inventive. Fantastic game! GIVE UP THE LOVE!

i hope they didn't fuck with the difficulty in the PS2 version. I love the GC version (am currently saved at Fire Leo on Ultra V-Rated mode) and I think we need more games that are hard as balls to weed out the 32-bit gamer generation who think skill is involved in level building.

I was a bit confused about this for some reason, too. According to what I've heard, Dante is indeed playable in this port of VJ1.
Gotta pick it up as soon as I get settled in at college.
*Spoiler?* Yeah I beat fire leo but later on you fight like some mecha leos, and they just stoped my ass, just cant beat the games couse of those. *Spoiler?*
I purchased this games opening day at ten in the morning, its the only game that I have pre orderd. I love it if only I could beat it.

dante is the same as Joe
it's like joe in a dante costume
that(and the sweet difficult) is the only change to cube version
@Super_Ghouls_'N'_Ghosts:
the demo version of (cube-)VJ is a joke in comparison to the final version.
the final version is smoother than smooth and blasts out more shiny colors
just want to point this out

Nope, I thought the difficulty was "OK". It was a bit hard, but that's fine. The first thing that pissed me off was the first helicopter where I died REPEATEDLY until I got a rhythm down that shouldn't have worked, but I guess is the way you're supposed to play the game. Took way too long, and wasn't my style of playing.
The MAIN reason, would be after the Bat, on the second stage, I would fall down into some sewers, and be stuck there with nowhere to go. Or, I would stay above ground, and play THE SINGLE MOST REPETITIVE GAME EVER RELEASED.

The helicopter for me was a bit of a chalenge for me as well, I too reverted to a cheap strategy that served me well on subsiquent boss battles--it is these that I feel are the games major weakness. The games art direction was fabulous the controls were fabulous. Normally games like this (beat m' ups) feel repetitive, and I have to say the only time I felt this was when I was frustrated, when I was advancing through levels this game was amazing!
We need more titles like this, shame that the game cube will no longer have it as an exclusive.

He's playable in the PS2 version of VJ1. He is unlocked after beating the game.
Also, he isn't just like Joe. Dante also uses his twin guns, Ebony and Ivory, as well as the baddest sword in video game land, the Alastor, (second maybe to only the Master Sword). Henshin-a-go-go, Dante!

Yeah I got the PS2 version yesterday and I have played most of the GC version already. The PS2 version looks a little less nice, but not that much! They pulled it off very well! The addition of Dante is very welcome and now I have to decide if i want to play through and beat it on PS2 or the Cube. I dunno if it's worth 30 bucks to those that already own it on cube, but if you dont already own it, then it really is a must buy IMHO.
btw - what is sweet mode? just an easier difficulty? I started the PS2 version on ADULTS mode...

I got this game for christmas along with my Game Cube.
It is the hardest fucking thing I have ever done second only possibly to Chakan the Forever man.
Cheezus F'n Cripes. I only managed to barely beat the vampire bat boss guy, and now I'm stuck on some sorta Helicopter gunship.
That game makes me sad and it makes my hands hurt.

I'll take a guess and say that Sweet mode is the easiest mode in the game. Capcom stated that there would be an even easier mode than Kids mode in the PS2 version of VJ1. Just guessing, though as I have not gotten my copy yet.

Sweet mode is like "Super Sweet Easy" pretty much..it's just for kicks, I guess the Japanese complained about the difficulty as well LOL.
But the one thing I noticed about Sweet Mode, the bosses are still kinda hard. (Iron Ogre and Bruce the Shark) Other then that, the enemies go down quicker, your life meter is bigger, and you start with 5 lives

Probably true, I just need a TV to TV comparison one of these days...
yet I'd like to point out that if Devil May Cry was on PS2...pulled off some interesting graphical effects, and the same creator of the DMC series made Viewtiful Joe...porting to the PS2, he probably knew what kind of hardware he was dealing with already...thus is why Dante is in the PS2 verison of VJ...it's the same creator showing off his work!
Yet coming back to your theory, I feel the PS2 Vs. Cube, it's still the same enjoyable game, the colors are still there imho from looking at screen shots, yet I need a deep investigation to find the truth to back up how I feel about the two.

Ok I finished the game, lord what a vicious game!! :( I haven't cussed that much since I saw my total student loan bill after college *drum roll*
Anyways, the ending was very interesting...yet I could not understand a flippin word during the music video
But anyways, the good part most of you have been asking...Dante!!
The gibberish sounds like they are talking backwards...it's the same game as Joe...but your Dante now....and the big difference is Dante has a higher combo rate versus Joe, but Joe is a little bit stronger I think.
Most disturbing thing about Dante...when he turns "Normal" he's in his underwear..... :hmm: especially when he's talking to his girl while sitting in the theatre half-ass naked....SECURITY!!! I NEED AN USHER! There is a naked demon in the front row!
Alastar and his guns are there, you can use them, the sword comes out when your attacking on ground, but while in mid air the guns go into action.
Yet you have no control like DMC like if you wanted to use just guns or the sword...it's a random effect when attacking...he'll do three slices, then attack three more times quickly with the guns...and repeat
So far, it's ok, Dante is faster then Joe when he attacks.

And I was able to get my copy of Viewtiful Joe for PS2 today. Yippeee! I'll post my impressions of Dante once I beat the game and unlock him. Thanks again to "Super_Ghouls_'N'_Ghosts" for all the talk about this game!

There doesn't seem to have been much chat about this one for a while...
So I'm really tempted to drop $8 on GCN VFJ2 at EB Games before it gets too difficult to find, especially since it's so inexpensive. However, I've already got VFJ DS and VFJ1 is on the way, even though I haven't had a chance to play either yet. Is it worth it?

I would say wait until VFJ1 arrives, you play it, and decide if you like it enough for two games. I would say that, but $8? You might as well just grab it, especially since Gamecube games are kind of drying up.
If you enjoy the first one, you'll enjoy the second. It's pretty much more of the same, and that's not really a bad thing in this case. The DS game is quite different from the other two. Personally, I love all three.

You forgot Red Hot Rumble.
With no hopes of a 3rd installment on the horizon and that the last new game was released was 3 years ago, there hasn't been much to cheer about unfortunately. I'm hoping Platinum Games (VFJ's creators new company) would team up with Capcom to give the series the happy ending it deserves.
VFJ2 is a OK game, but didn't play as 'viewtiful' as the first and no secret characters to unlock. Silvia Replay idea was valiant yet shallow and with her around boss battles became a breeze combining Silvia's gun with Slow.
VFJ on the DS brought back some of the most interesting and original concepts plus a few new moves making the experience fresh and great. Actually, it was probably the first game to extensively make use the DS dual screen technology.

Actually there is reason to rejoice since Joe will be in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, with Silvia as his assist. Then again that's all depends if you plan to import it.

Wait until you hit the underwater level in vfj2. i got stuck on that level. there is some big room in there where you can't do anything in it (huge room).
vfj1 is awesome though. rrr is okay, but 1 is so awesome!
