I haven't seen much in this thread on box restoration and cleaning. Since I'm a CIB whore with my collection, this is a topic dear to my heart. Are there any tips people could share for cleaning up dirty boxes without destroying the cardboard?

Well, I always go from mild to wild. First I try Q-tip+water and if that doesn't do it, Q-Tip+ethanol. As you know, you can't really rub the cardboard as the top layer will come off, just light feathery sweeps.
As for getting boxes back to shape:

I've always used a spray bottle to wet the box and then I've put a baking paper (or whatever the proper term is) in the box to prevent it sticking while in the press. Might be just me being stupid but that's how I do it.

There is actually a thread here somewhere where a guy gives a detailed description on how to revive a creased box by soaking it in water and pressing it. It sounds weird and really sketchy, but look for that thread if you're interested.
BTW, when I'm cleaning imperfections off of a box, I always put a filler directly under the spot I'm working on so that there is no stress put on the cardboard.

Yeah, I remember that thread and I was about to bring it up. I believe that the boxes may have gotten soaked and he wanted to fix them. Sounded a bit sketchy to me, but I think it involved soaking them and then leaving the box pressed between some very heavy books for about 2 weeks. It was an interesting read though...didn't have much luck finding the thread tho...Anyone know who posted it?

It's the one that davidleeroth linked to at the top of this thread ;)
