Came across this "reproduction" on ebay. Was it ever officially released? (I'd look it up, but my DP guide is currently MIA)

NICE sig, I fully agree!
Anyhow, I would like to know this as well. +1 and all that. I'm guessing it's gonna turn out to be real...I think I saw it in a list of XL/XE games somewhere. Whee

Hmm, I don't see M.U.L.E. in my DP Guide, and a search of the online rarity guide turned up nada. Wish I could offer more, but I'm not that knowledgable regarding the Atari 8-bit line.
It's a pirate cart made by a company called Sunmark! They specialize in this sort of thing. There was no official MULE cart for the 8-bit Atari.

Handy pirate, though. :)
Is it worth anything? Sometimes pirates actually become rare and valuable.
I believe M.U.L.E. was the most pirated/copied game in history. Which is a shame, cause even today it's a kick ass game. :o

It's not an original, 'back in the day' release, no. It is made from carts available at www.atarimax.com I bought one of the 8meg carts a while ago and you can always buy one and make your own carts. Even stuff multiple carts on each one. Pretty neat. Occasionally ndary is an ebay user that puts up Mule XE carts in XE cases. He's technically proficient but at least he use to be very hazy on the carts being reproductions/hacks.

Though it says that it's a reproduction right there in the auction, I'm hoping that it says it on the cart as well. Repros are fun but if they're not marked they ultimately find their way into the hands of a collector who sometimes overpays thinking it's something rare just because it isn't in th DP Guide. I get a lot of that.

I bought one of Sunmark's repro carts awhile back (#39):

And the label doesn't look anything like the label in the auction. Did they release a subsequent run or something? Or was this perhaps done by someone other than Sunmark?

Sunmark was not the originator of that cart if I am not mistaken. That one I believe came from AtariMax. link (http://www.atarimax.com) Probably a 1meg cart then the files in the forum there was used to load Mule on to it. Very nice cart especially the 8meg one if you want to do dev work or make multicarts.

I know that I also bought an AtariMax cartridge from them. But I didn't think the "Mule" cart I bought was just the same thing in different clothing (I think that's what you're suggesting).
If I get off me arse I can scan a pic of the cart I do have.

Yup that is what I meant. Just said it unclearly. I believe it is a 1meg Atarimax cart with MULE loaded into it. Almost positive that has been converted and was posted in their forums. Been a while since I visited there tho. Really need to find some time to play with my cart also. Make a nice multi so I don't have to do a bunch of sodlering making my own.

John, you are such an IDIOT.... That is not my cart, get your facts straight.
What is wrong with you??

I'd like to publicly apologize to Mark for stating that this was his cart. I wasn't aware that others were making carts like this. At the time of my statement, Mark was the only I knew of who had made a MULE cart.
I stand corrected and send my deepest apologies Mark. Let me know if there's anything I can do to make it up to you.

Mark, do you have a sense of humor or are you serious with that?
I thought that you made some MULE carts as well. In fact, I think that I bought one from you. If not, I got it from some other similarly reputable dealer. If I didn't, no matter. Your reply seems a little... overstated, if you're not kidding with the 'idiot' thing. I guess I might doubt that you are kidding given John's reply.

It might not be your cart, but ...
There are no buts about it - it's not his cart which answers *my* original question.
Lets not all get bent out of shape now. The cart I did buy I *love* - but do we know who made the original cart we're talking about?
