i always kind of dug the european/japanese controllers more than the us ones, and was thinking of getting one for myself. it's a small difference bewteen the two, so normally i wouldn't bother except that i have family in europe so i could ask a favor and potentially get one easily.

so the question is, will an american snes recognize european controllers? could it potentially cause any problems? dunno if anyone's tried this since i've looked around online and haven't foudn any information, but if anyone knows, they're probably on digital press. anyone here tried this? or have both pal and ntsc models and willing to try it out for me?

sort of an odd request, i know, but i'm curious. :?

For whatever reason US/JPN pads are wired differently to European SNES pads. I can't remember which way round the compatibility works, I used to though sadly. So there's a 50/50 chance you can! Until someone can confirm here...

Some controllers won't work on some PAL SNESs unless a simple modification is made to the controller port. The mod involves shorting 2 (or was it 4) diodes.
Can't say if this is the case with US consoles.

It's mainly Japanese pads that have the problem. For the most part the problem comes using US/JPN pads on a PAL SNES, in general using PAL pads on a US/JPN SNES is fine (I did some digging!) :)
