Seriously, someone needs to explain to me what is the big appeal behind Gmail? What is the advantage to this new service? More storage space for messages? The "search" feature? Just because it's "new-n-cool?"

Evceryone's clamoring for these invites, but no one's told me WHY? @_@ What am I missing?

I liked gmail because I can have a short email address, instead of rich2323242kjsdf32423423423409imcmc@yahoo.com

I don't really use gmail that often, but I like to have a web based email incase I want to send a file to myself so I can download it on different computers when I need it.

I've wondered the same thing, and I've yet to find any appeal behind it other than it's "new 'n cool"...every computer forum I frequent has been just bustling over gmail, with very little explanation as to why. I really don't see the point in it...I get 2 gigs of storage through my ISP (SBC Yahoo) that I will *never * be able to fill up. Why would I need a gmail account?

Gmail is great b/c of the search feature primarily for me anyway. I save all my ebay related messages (pmts, sales, Q&A, gripes) and can find anything I need whenever. Other than that, its no better than yahoo. My biggest complaint right now is that you can't set an out-of-office reply yet (although I've been reassured they are working on it). I've had 3-4 requests which puts me at 2-3 left. PM me if you want one.

Sniderman..

First of all the thing about Gmail was when it was NEW, for a time you could get most any name before they were all taken up. Personally, I got Spaceinvader, spaceinvaders, Atari5200, majorhavoc, mesaboogie, my proper name in several formats, and several others. THAT my friend, is what the hype was about... However, that period has long since gone. There is no hype anymore... there's no more names! :D (you could still probably get DonkeyKong245200 however ;)) I'm sure 'sniderman' is probably still available though :)

Since they're still in beta (I think) you can still only get a gmail account by being invited by someone else. So there may be some residual demand due to the fact that you just can't just surf to google and get an account.. at least not yet. Due to my large # of accounts, I had about 18+ invites the last I checked and I couldn't get rid of them fast enough even though I sent out like 4 a day to whoever asked. I haven't checked any of my accounts over the past couple of weeks though

As far as what's the deal.. it's just another web based email service. That's about it. No one really uses it (actually does anyone really use WEB based email?) :? I know I don't.. although of course I have about 15+ accounts each at Rocketmail, Yahoo mail, MSN mail, Hotmail, and now Gmail accounts. The only thing I use them for is.. well nothing. :P I sometimes use them to sign up for stuff (web subscriptions, mailing lists, or whatnot) but of course none of them are my primary. It's just another thing. Want an invite?

Please message if possible.

Anyone with a spare, shoot me a PM, please.

Thanks,

I use Gmail as my primary. Sole reason: It's fast as hell.

I got 3 left These things are going for 1.75 on half.com or so I think the best reason to use it as your main is to get more invites

Dave log on to your account and scroll all the way down and look in the bottom left. That should say how many invites you have left. If anybody wants a invite pm me.
