is it possible to use a motherboard wich has the atx connector + the other one of 4 pins (2 gnd's and 2 12v lines) without connecting the other 4 pins?

No, you need to connect those other power pins, but you can either buy or make an adapter to power those from the regular ATX power supply... just make sure that the supply can handle the extra power (and uses the proper gauge wiring).

so that would be an 12 gauge cable and i would also take the 12v lines right?

I think it depends on what processor your using. If its a big ol P4 (2.6ghz+ ?) then it would probably help, but for a lower end processor (duron perhaps) you should be able to run without it.

that extra 4 pin connector is used for Pentium processors
AMDs dont require them
