why you people hate gamestop.

Not only have I gotten a run around from each of their stores claiming that each of the other has nintendo and super nintendos, i went to one tonight, and my gf asked about them.

the guy replied in the typical manner as to why they dont carry them. I said it amazes me, since all the old stuff is going quite nicely on ebay. he replied "well it amazes me too, since its all old shit and probably less reiable than the crap we take in."

I shoulda reached over the counter and bitch slapped him

Granted they are 10-20 years old, but fixes for their problems arent too costly.

dammit i hate modern gamers, they just dont appreciate games in there true form!
i hate game stop, i went in one day and saw lots of old n64 games on clearance, i was thrilled when i saw some of the rarer titles, when i asked if they were complete the clerk replied "no, if they come on with boxes we generally throw them away to save space" and then couldnt understand why i didnt want it anymore.
i heard that as of february 2004 they stopped accepting snes and nes games, but maybe thats just the store near me.

that the perfect place to post this would've been in the GameStop thread, which would've been much better than making a topic without a descriptive title. I want my thirty seconds back, damnit! ;)

Lessee I've had my NES for a good 15 years before it started giving me siginificant issues, and my first PS2 for 2 years before it crapped out....

My SNES has been played for at least 10000 hours and has yet to give me an ounce of trouble, yet my XBox gives me serious issues after around 60 hours of play.

And the new stuff is more reliable how?

Kill them...release the hounds smithers.....

Which comes to mind...if you were to write a letter to GameStop Inc, what would you say?

Here's my example

Dear GameStop,

Thank you kindly for your retarded employees who love to place USED stickers on cartridge labels for N64, Super NES, NES, Genesis, GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance for the past 3 years. Making the value of the cart WORTHLESS to many buyers who wish to re-sale.

By the way, if I had a dime for every time I had to clean your cartridges to rid the residue, it would add up to $35.50 you nasty asses who love to sell beat up destoried cartridges covered in random and foreign flith....

I would like to kick you square in the nuts for the main-stream asshole who decided to rid all Cartridge based systems of 16-bit and 8-bit. Kudos to you AND I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL BITCH!!

I would like to say I was a former employee of GameStop...but I was rejected for rehire at your store in Waco, Texas because I was BLACK MAILED BY MY MANAGER in Arlington, Texas claiming I left without notice!

When I have the 2 week notice in print in my hands.

I would like to also point out how your managers will bride your employees with free games in order to do better work, I have had 3 managers during my time with your people...and I feel some are crooked as hell. In fact my assisant manager who was female would cry daily because of the verbal abuse she took from my manager.

When your district manager arrived to inspect us, he lied through his teeth when I asked to be transferred to another store.

This same manager is now working in your corporate offices in charge of sales and advertisting. He schemed his way to the top and no one reported him.

To you gamestop, you are the worst in retail history, your a tyrant, and I hope you fall for all the stores you have done wrong to.

Love (aww he says love...)

That's true since Feb of 04, they cleaned out everything, my question is where the hell did the leftovers go? That's over 300 to about 400 stores almost I believe....I hope all those games aren't stuck in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Big waste of profit I think

just stop going in there...that's what i did...there's nothing in there that you can't just get at best buy now anyways (now that they don't sell older systems), for cheaper.

i just goto gamerush's and my local independant video game store. blockbuster doesn't throw out the boxes, and they often have good buy2 get1free deals.

I understand why you/we complain about Gamestop putting stickers on games, throwing out boxes, and other things, but realize this: now that the industry has grown out of the geeks basements, became a billion dollar business, remember it is being aimed towards the casual gamers, don't think for one second that companies such as Gamestop, Electronic Boutique, GameRush, Gamecrazy give a damn about us and what collector's think. It's like any other business, out to make money. Bottom line. We hear people talk about the evils of these stores, but really, who cares? Older games like the NES & SNES were not profitable for some of these stores to carry anymore, some it is. All you did before was complain how outrageous the prices were anyway. Shouldn't we be happy that we can find them out in the open again, at mom & pops, flea markets, garage sales, ebay!

Now go use that woundup energy and go out & find something rare.

The fact of the matter is were all not rich i myself being a kid cannot afford to go out and buy a new game every month so instead I turn to the cheap alternative older games some of the best games were made 10-15 years ago everytime I talk about video games with my dad he simply just says its all been done before except it looks pretty so they can put a $60 price tag on it I'd rather be out buying 20 old games for the price of one new one I dont care how new the game is so long as it is fun I have never had problems with my snes my friend's Dreamcast and my other friend's Gamecube on the other had have tons of problems I went to EB games a while ago and did not see one game I was interested in i go to the thirft store and find tons of games I love and cheerish for years instead of 2 months like vice city. Next time you punch someone for saying all old game suck punch him twice as hard for me.

They shipped them to other stores. For example, all of the NES, SNES, Genny and DC stuff at all the Gamestop stores in Portland (and I believe there are about 10) were moved to 4, maybe 5 stores.

The only thing I learned about GameStop after leaving two years ago was they are good for having brand new releases on demand (In this case, Viewtiful Joe for PS2 when I got it off the UPS truck was the bomb).

As for another stuff...ignore it, everyone is right...just get yourself to a flea market and yard sale...go nuts...you are better off finding it there or Ebay

the sad but true point is......

Gamestop is a business that has a focus of selling to the average gamer

old outdated games and sytems dont sell to the average gamer

collecting vintage videogames is still not mainstream enough to profit from it in a chain store model.

most video game collectors are cheap bastards and still wouldnt pay any decent price IF they did carry cool rad stuff boxed and complete.

dont waste your time, go to your local flea marts and salvation army stores, buy from dirt farms, and be happy what you do find :D .

Getting all pissed off at Gamestop and other main chains is like getting mad a Wall-Mart and Target for not carrying records and 8-tracks. Carrying older games espically on a large scale is too hard to do right and takes up too much floor space.

Instead of using all that negative energy to find rare items, go sign up for a business class instead :D

Just today, the manager of a Gamestop gave me a hard time when I went to return some used games that I bought just the other day. Their policy is to take returns for any reason within 7 days for used games. He made a big deal about it and said it was subject to "manager approval". He pointed to a sign that listed rules for TRADE INS. I explained that I was RETURNING, not trading in. I only needed the reciept. I asked him what HIS supervisor would think, and he said "Im the manager", and I told the idiot that he has a supervisor too. Eventually he accepted the return, but it will probably warrant a letter to the headquarters anyway, to raise his chances of losing his job. Its a shame too because I usually had good luck there.

But then again, they dont sell older games, and other stores have better deals on the newer ones, so they have kind of lost their purpose.

There are 2 Gamestop stores in my area and they used to be one of my favorite places to pick up classic games for cheap. My only problem was with the employees. They didnt know crap about ANY games, classic or recent. And they always had an attitude like they were better than the customer just cause they work there. Now that they dont sell any older games anymore I dont have to put up with the shit head employees. A little longer and something bad probably would have happened.

Just when I think I am ready to check out and bid this cruel modern videogaming world adieux I see there are at least some fleeting inclings of interest. I can't stant GameStop, a contempt which is only slightly surpassed by that which EB Games garners. Modern game stores are like a vast wasteland. When inquiring about anything for a system other than GameCube, Xbox, or Playstion I feel like a character from Oliver Twist sheepishly begging, "please sir, can I have some more?" The response to which is always the perverbial slap in the face, "No man I am like [sic] totally sure sega never made a 32bit console." or may favorite, "Nintendo 64, man that's like totally old school!"

The one good thing I can say about modern chain stores is in regards to GameCrazy where I have at least not been pissed off by any of my experiences. And even if the employees don't know anything, they don't present themselves as some kind of authority on the sunject.

You have to understand that people LOVE to abuse that seven day, "I don't like it", return system.

Despite popular belief.....Gamestop, EB, etc. DO NOT RENT GAMES. You can't just keep returning used game after game after game after game, as a sorta rental scam. I'm not saying you have done it, but keep in mind EVERY return should be management approved. It actually means the employees in that store are paying attention and doing their jobs. Roger Huxley shouldn't be allowed to buy a 15 dollar used game every week and then return it and get something else....cause he "doesn't like it." Sure buying a complete turd of a game (/see Unlimited SaGa) happens to everyone and thats why they do have that guarantee....but do some research. If you see the clerk giving you a disc only and you want a case, tell him/her kindly you'll wait on it. Or perhaps they have another copy that is complete, if that's your issue. (Defectives are another thing, but stores FOR THE MOST PART (see? notice that? I'm talking about stores who don't hire idiots, lackies, gangsters, punks, bitches, and complete retards), watch what they take in, and will be more then happy to get you another copy of the same game within that 90 day DEFECTIVE period.....or store credit if there are no more copies of the same game.)

People who think they are being clever by abusing the system needs to have my foot inserted into their assholes.

It seems like EVERYONE loves to rag on Gamestop, EB...hell I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say just about every major/minor gaming retailer. You can not make everyone happy in retail. Everyone is going to have bad experiences in a retail situations (better yet, in day to day social interaction). Despite another popular belief, the clerk's life at said store does NOT revolve around you. Ask question if you need it, don't be a dick, and USE COMMON SENSE. Also learn the alphabet, it helps you find "Ghosthunter" in the "G's" without someone having to hold your hand.

Employees of major gaming chains needs to start an "I hate the customer, cause he's a prick 98 percent of the time" thread. Seems like humans possess this superiority complex (cause they are NEVER wrong) and the whining is starting to wear thin on my nerves. Like someone else said, didn't we do this thread....LAST WEEK??

All in all, its not Gamestop that is out to get you, the little man, the casual gamers, the HARDCORE!!!!!111 gamers, or whatever other group needs a pity party. Its that damned air. I suggest not breathing it.

I went into a Gamestop that I normally don't frequent, and tried talking to one of the workers. I mentioned SEGA and the worker started being a bitch, saying "Sega sucks. They should have stopped making systems a lot earlier. It's a good thing they are only making games now. Junk."

What a cock. I asked a few more things about stuff, but the worker came across as one of those kids who think anything that isn't "next-gen" is crap.

Actually, I agree with that statement somewhat. They'd be in better financial position right now if they hadn't botched both the Saturn and Dreamcast. The Genesis add-on fest wasn't completely necessary, either. With a better financial state, their excellent-yet-small development houses might not have been driven to split up (like UGA and AM2). The talent would have stayed. Not that money was the sole reason for their demise, but you can't say it wasn't a contributing factor.

Yeah, yeah, yeah both systems did have some good games, and they have dedicated followings. Hell, I like the Dreamcast myself. But when it comes down to it, they were both failures for the company in the grand scheme of things. Sega's actual games are almost always good, and would have reached a much larger audience if they were on the system the majority of gamers were playing.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Yeah, that too. :)

My EBGames employees are pretty good. Around here, they can tell you about NES and Genesis if you ask them. There was this one guy that didn't know crap about classic games once, and when I asked him if he had any Castlevania, he said no. I came back a different day and asked a different employee. He was a knowledgable one, and pulled the Castlevania NES cart from this back cabinet :)
I bought it, heh. But, except for that one guy, all the employees have been able to aswer my questions about classics.
Threre isn't a gamestop nearby here, and I haven't been to the gamecrazy near here yet. So I don't know about them.
