Tutankham for the Odyssey2/Videopac was in the Rumor Mill for a looong time, but it looks like a prototype has finally turned up! The Brazilian site Odyssey 2000 has an exclusive screenshot (the site's in Portuguese; here (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=pt_en&trurl=http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/3226/odyarq.html) is a translated version). Apparently the EPROM was obtained by Maurice "BuckyB" Simon from an ex-Philips employee. BuckyB is quoted as saying the game is much better than the Atari 2600 version. :eek 2:
No word yet on whether a ROM will be released, but it looks like the screenshot was taken on an emulator...

It wouldn't take much work to make it better than the 2600 version, but I'm curious about the claim of the O2 pulling off a better Tutankham than the 2600.
P.S. WOW. That screen shot looks REALLY neat.
P.P.S. ME WANT.

Hell I was surprised when I found out there was a Q-Bert and Popeye for the Videopac. X_x And it's an arcade port which makes it much more interesting for me personally. Always cool to see these kind of things... :)

Way cool! Neat title screen, but only one picture?
I just heard from BuckyB. He's been scant with information regarding the game because he's in the middle of moving right now. Once he's settled in, he'll be sharing additional info about it. He did tell me the proto was just a labeled EPROM -- not in a cart -- and didn't have any docs with it.
If I hear anything more, I'll post it here and on my site (http://www.classicgaming.com/o2home).

I wonder if it would completely jinx it if I started working on cart label/manual/box art for this one right now...

On a related note...Did any plans for releasing Spiderman in cart form or anything ever come up?
That's cool too though...i'd love to try it out.

I don't think the owner of the Spidey O2 cart has even consented to a ROM dump. I'm sure folks have offered help in that area endlessly since it was found though.
This is turning out to be quite the year of O2/Videopac finds. I hope the ROMs wind up circulating at some point, and maybe they will, but that's really up to the folks with the protos. If I were them, I'd be too busy playing/documenting the things. ;)

You're correct as far as I know, but according to Marcelo at Odyssey 2000, the Spider-Man proto owner, Bas Kornalijnslijper, apparently did show it at a recent convention in Europe (I dunno which one). So at least it hasn't "vanished," so to speak.
It sounds like more details regarding Tutankham will probably surface sooner, rather than later. I'm waiting anxiously. :)

Whenever they wanna let this thing, or that other Parker Bros. game that's been found, into the open, I'm more than ready to do a manual for 'em. ;)

This kinda-thrown-together proposed manual artwork brought to you by a night with absolutely no sleep, Paint Shop Pro, and Royksopp.
(I know this would've looked like any other Parker Brothers box/manual art in real life, but let's face it, O2 stuff had the coolest artwork.)

Kinda thought I left an ample clue up there, but here's a thread that spells it out. ;)

Oh, I thought you meant besides Tut AND Spider-Man; thought there was a THIRD game found. Thanks for clarifying.

Update: The Tutankham ROM is available now on Dieter Koenig's Classic Consoles Center (http://www.dieterkoenig.at/ccc/) site. I've only played it briefly, but it is remarkable for a Videopac game. According to Dieter, there are 100(!) different gameplay screens in addition to the animated title screen. The graphics are very detailed by O2/Videopac standards. Looks totally top-notch!
Dieter also has a review, some instructions and a complete map available.

Ack - you beat me to it. I hadn't even seen this post before now... :embarrassed: Hope you don't mind, but I posted this link in the main VG forum as well.

I'd love to see these released in some form so I could play them the way they were meant to be played, on an Odyssey2!
Thanks for all the great info on these...

Hey PDF, for more authenticity on the O2 Spider-Man, have 'ya thought of using the Spider-Man from the 80's Firestar/Iceman series?

Yeah, I'm not entirely satisfied with the Spidey cover up there. There'll be a revision eventually. ;)
FYI folks - Tutankham does not appear to work 100% on the Odyssey2. I tried it last night with a C7030 loader, and it has screen flicker problems. Just picture playing the game with the video cutting in/out very rapidly. It is playable, but it is hard on the eyes. It is also possible to get stuck in the walls, but I'm not sure if this is the game or due to the 'flicker' issue. Once your stuck, of course, you have to Reset!
Hope someone out there knows how to fix this!?
Curious too - does anyone here in the States on the Forum have a C7030 Cart Loader? Just would like to make totally sure this isn't a C7030 thing, or if it is truly not NTSC compatible.
I am also bummed out on the fact that the C7030 is NOT Voice compatible, just like KTAA - oh well.... :(
title screen on the O2 does work, but it has that flickering problem!
I also did my double checking. Tutankham is NOT NTSC compatible, ast least not 100% - period. I did find that someone has a modified version that works better on NTSC O2 units - with the modified version, only part of the top of the screen flickers - the title screen still flickers. Also doesn't fix the fact that the bottom of the screen is cut off - you loose the symbols that represent the men you have left, bombs left, etc. I'm hoping this modified version gets posted online!
Anyone know if the modified version ever found its way online? Also does anyone know how to set up Odyssey2 in MESS? I can't get it to recognize the bios file.
Not that I'm aware of. Only a few people have it, and I was told not to share it - so I am not. Sorry... you'd have to talk to the folks who have this ROM image.
To be honest, the modified version was not 100% playable anyway. It still had screen flicker issues, but not as bad as the unmodified one. You could still get stuck in the walls though... I'm still waiting for the 'good' fix.

This is the first Odyssey game I've emulated, and it works great, even was able to use my 360 joystick.
Anyway, this is definitely a thinking game more so than the arcade game. The ability to shoot in any direction is a definite plus, though I'm wondering why it takes so long to move upwards...supposed to represent climbing? Or a bug in my setup?
I just d/l the latest version of O2EM (v1.17 http://o2em.sourceforge.net/ ) and it seems to run fine now.
Btw, were the Spider-Man carts ever made/released? Any word on if (or when) the rom file will be available?
Tutankham will not work on the real O2 units. They are trying, but there are doubts that it will work 100%.
Spider-Man was released months ago. THe second run I think is going right now - if you want one, you better hurry.
As for the ROM, the original owner is not releasing it the public yet (as far as I know). Eventually, but not yet.
The issue with Tut is that is was made specifically for PAL. The experts (Rene and others) have not been able to get it to work on our TV's without the bottom third having serious flicker issues - yet. This may never get fixed.
Stonic,
Latest word is the ROM image for Spider-Man for the Odyssey2 will be released to the public after the second run of SPider-Man carts are done with. Only thing is, I'm not sure on the exact date here. SHould be by year end at the latest.
Just an FYI on what I've heard.
