I got the "Special Edition" today. It's almost indistinguishable from the regular edition. There's a little circle on the back that says Special Edition, and the publishing info mentions the soundtrack on the back cover. Did anyone get the regular edition? Or IS the regular one available at all?

I preordered it the night before it came in, and was told I would get the special edition, though it may take a few days.

I checked 1 Best Buy (out of 4 near me) and 1 small Gamestop= nothing. I will probably just order it online since I'm lazy. :)

My edition is also the same way, the Game Stop I was at had nothing but Special Editions. It may be a print run thing, not 100%, but subsequent print runs may have other cover art or something.

In related news, the strategy guide for it rocks. It comes in a small form factor, lots of color and pictures, more details than you could have otherwise asked for, and the Q&A section features a question by the Roundtable's own Daria.

I talked to someone else today who said their game store had a couple of the regular editions. I think that stores only got enough for preorders mostly and if you go to Gamestop or EB, that meants SEs only at those stores, and we may not see the others....at all.

definitely interesting so interesting that I had to post a thread about it

END....

it's ultimately a lot more challenging than Disgaea, since characters you summon have a "time limit" on the field so you have to plan carefully, in addition the type of object you summon your character in does make a difference to the stats.

ultimately very fun and I gotta get a copy asap

Your "haven't beaten Disgaea either or even start on Lapucelle" uglyclone

somehow it doesn't work as well as when adamG does it

i got it today and i'm digging it thus far. like nippon ichi's other stuff, it's a different set of mechanics and story but still feels like it's in the same "world."

the gridless placement system is a step forward i've been waiting for tactical rpgs to take for a while now. it looks like having a sizeable roster of characters is an even more important point than it was in disgaea, because once summoned they can only stick around for so many turns and then they're gone for the rest of the battle. hasn't ben a problem thus far, but in big boss fights it could cause problems if you don't have enough backup party members. not sure though, maybe the amount of time they can stick around can be extended by levellign them up or reaching story points.

also nice is that your generic party members exist outside your formation/status screen. they all chill out and lie around on your home island, and not only can you go talk to them for some funny bits of dialogue ("Talking once in a while is ok. It could be worse, I could be a prinny.") but they do stuff while you're fighting (merchants make money through their business, etc).

i dunno, i'm enjoying it a lot. it will feel familair to you if you played rhapsody/disgaea/la pucelle but there's plenty of new stuff to keep it from being stale.

Picked it up.

Our EB got in 4 copies for 2 preorders- 2 LE, 2 normal. Same price, go figure.

Barely got a chance to play it, but it seems awesome. I grabbed the strategy guide too.

Does it have those enemy stat x 6 tiles in it?

LMAO yeah that first map with Enemy X 3 was a bitch. Then you master throwing and it isn't so hard anymore, but I knew somebody who I used to consider a good gamer who quit because he couldn't beat that map and thought he had to level up forever in the item world to beat it.

Anybody notice how crappy the manual is?

This is supposed to be the most complex S-RPG EVER and the manual is... a whopping 14 pages long... and there's also a point where it says "See Stats, page 18" which doesn't exist...

Is it just my manual? Doesn't seem like it, because it has credits and a "memos" page at the end, so it seems like it finishes up.

I am probably going to get this, even though I have yet to beat Tales of Symphonia, and ordered FF3 snes.

One thing is for sure, this game, along with Disagea and La Pucille are guaranteed to be worth $$$ in the near futre ( kinda like Valkyrie Profile and Tactics Ogre)

while in EB the otherday i overheard the employees talking about how the next shipment of the game will not include the music cd, and that the first shipment was all ready all preordered. i smell a valuable collectors piece :P

I'm having lots of fun participating in random dungeon battles to level up my phantoms. I'm also happy that this game lets you create and rename your troops, which was one of the main things I didn't like about La Pucelle.

I predict it will be roughly the same difference between Shenmue and Shenmue LE. That is, not that much more desirable than the normal version in the future, but definitely a pain in the ass to find.

I bought the Special edition version a few days ago. I'm absolutely addicted to it! It's so deep and and confusing though. Between this and Pikmin 2, I have alot of gaming to do!

I got it yesterday and I am enjoying it quite a lot so far now that I am starting to understand how everything works.

I just think it's funny the collector's edition is barely discernible from the outside (has the tiny CD label in the bottom right of the bank while the normal one doesn't) and it's the same price...

I picked up mine today. There were a total of 4 preorders, but the store got 8 SE copies in, and one regular version :hmm:

It's supposedly the areas biggest EB though, and they are always quite busy, so I imagine they will be sold out by this weekend.

I just saw this game today and it looks excellent. I just have to get around to picking it up after work.
