My favorite game of all time is Revenge of Shinobi I just played it so much that I know it down to a tee. Not only does it have a rocking soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro but it's one of those games that pushed the genesis to the limit in terms of music score and controll.
Above is my Revenge of shinobi Shrine. LOL

My vote came down to Shinobi or Shadow Dancer. Close call, but in the end, Shadow Dancer wins out.

Sending your wolf compatriot to attack the enemy ALWAYS wins out. Wolves rule.

I was taken with the original but when Revenge of Shinobi came out I almost wore out my thumbs. I remember being amazed by the blowing leaves on level 1 when I first played it. I love the Boss on the airplane level too.

By all accounts, I should be voting for Shinobi 3; this game looks terrific, plays fast and tight, and there's more variety and challenge than most console games deserve to have. But the dirty truth is that Shinobi 3 wouldn't be anywhere without its predecessor, Revenge of Shinobi. Quite a lot of 16-bit games wouldn't be anywhere without this masterpiece, either. Remember that wonderful skyscraper-rooftops motif and when it was copied by almost everyone? There's something of a kitchy retro feel to this game. The solid, though muted and weathered, color scheme; the '70s kung-fu-movie score by Yuzoi Koshiro; great setpieces like the disco and the crosstown traffic and the nighttime raid on a dojo; RoS is the great tribute to 1970s Bruce Lee movies that were never made.

But, really, is either Super Shinobi really better than the other? It's really a Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin IV kind of thing. Either case, I'd give a dollar to see anything this cool in our modern 3-D age.

That game was never made by Sega, but farmed out to Vic Tokai, wasn't it? I guess I never thought of that as a "true sequel." All I remember is that it looked rather plain and was roundly whipped in the prozines. Did anybody like that one?

The game was made by Sega of Japan Vic Tokai Bought the Rights to release a Censored version of it here in the USA.

I like Shinobi for SMS better than the other Shinobi's although I haven't played the PS2 Shinobi yet. I LOOOOVE the bosses in the original Shinobi. Ken Oh, Black Turtle, Mandarin (frustrating as hell), Lobster (his levels are my favorite), and the Masked Ninja. Yeaaaaa!!!!!

Although I really love Revenge for the Genesis, SMS Shinobi is the all time best. It was just a whole helluva lot of fun among myself and myt school friends. I remember spending alot of freezing cold nights at my best friends house (he always had the a/c's BLASTING) playing that game. The bosses, bonus shruken levels, Monroe.....great game!

Since we're on the subject, has anyone checked out the new Shinobi on GBA? It's titled "The Revenge of Shinobi," but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the 1990 classic; the game is an all-new installment more related to the new PS2 version. And it stinks. This is one instance where I'd want to see a classic port on the Advance.

When I was 7 or so, I found it rather difficult to get into gaming, mainly because there weren't many games I found all that fun. Revenge of Shinobi, The Legend of Zelda, Golden Axe, Shadow Blasters, Phelios, and Mickey Mousecapades, were the games that caught my attention and were the main cause for my parents forcing me to get "fresh air."

Bottom line, Revenge of Shinobi is one of the reason I got into gaming at all. I could bet that I am not alone on this one.

Revenge of Shinobi
with Shadow Dancer a close second...
I think the only reason Shadow Dancer get's knocked back was becuase THAt was one of the few games that I played in the arcade BEFORE I played the console version ,and the console version just doens't live up to my original take on it
Tho it IS still a great game.

But I gotta question... whats up with this Super Shinobi?
I have the Sega Smash Pack for the PC and it has Super Shinobi on it which is just RoS with the different Music on different levels. A few slightly different bosses AND I'll add that it actually let's you select your starting level like the ORIGINAL RoS CLAIMED you could do, but couldn't

Was this Super Shinobi actually relased anywhere?

I've played and owned all but the Shadow Dancer one. Didn't even know it existed. :/

I was currious why the Gamegear versions weren't listed? They were pretty nice for hand held and are really fun to play. The stories are nearly the same thing but the levels are different and the second one gives the red ninja more moves. The only annoyance was having to hit the start button and switch between ninjas to do different specials.

The one I voted for though was Shinobi III: Revenge of the Ninja Master. The graphics were so crisp, blazing fast, and so colorful amazing! Plus the controls were to die for and combos. It's my favorite definitely. The bosses were pretty cool and had nice algorithms to follow for a victory, but I never got more than a few levels in. I forget how far I made it so I should try again sometime down the road and crack away at it til I do win.

I have always been partial to Shinobi 3. I was always a fan of the whole series starting with the arcade Shinobi I'd play at a local restaurant, but it wasn't until Shinobi 3 that I declared myself a true Shinobiholic.

The game is just so damn beautiful.

Love the whole series though, really. Cyber Shinobi on the SMS was a letdown, as was the port of Shadow Dancer on the same system, but other than that, I have no complaints.

I voted in the first Shinobi.

IŽd like this Arcade and Master System versions of this game.

One advantage of Master System version is the life meter for Joe Musashi.
The life meter to facilitate in the battle with bosses.
In the Arcade and PC Engine / Turografix versions, one
attack of normal enemies or bosses to attain Musashi
is certain death for him.
The life meter advantage is present in the NES version this game too.

But i recognize the merit of the other three games cited in the poll, but the Shinobi is my favorite game of this serie.

Shinobi 3. One of the best games I ever played. I liked all the shinobi games but this is the best in my book. There is no weak point in this game.
