View Full Version : A big goodbye wave to a classic gamer.
Raedon
09-03-2004, 05:29 PM
Today a classic gamer is on his death bed.
Trey was a good friend of mine, doofy like me but with much better comebacks. :) We were big into arcade games but when Street Fighter came out.. well, lets say we all freaked.
Trey worked as a arcade /coin-op repair man in the 90's when he turned 18. So smart the guy was, he once hooked a car alarm to a Mortal Kombat arcade cabbie so every time we "ARMED" the alarm it gave use free credits. :D
Years past and we all went off to college or Tech schools. Trey was doing Networking.
He built the first MAME machine I had ever seen and was the only original owner of a 3D0 putting him in a league of.. one.
About two years ago he started noticing lumps on his skin. It turned out to be a type of bone cancer. After 4 Chemo's and sooo many experimental treatments he coded last night but was revived.
He has asked that if he coded again to let him pass. :(
As of today he is in his 28th wonderful year here with us all and I feel I would have missed something wonderful if I had not grown up with him..
May his passing to join with the ancestors be an easy one this weekend.

Everything is fine.. We all have our time, be it 12 or 102.
I think the best way we could all honor him this weekend is with as many games of SFII, SFII:CE games we can play with friends.

Sorry to hear that Raedon, it brings everything into clarity! when a close friend or family member leaves us, I know he may not be in heaven yet!.. my prayers go out to his family and friends, but more importantly to your friend..
( People always say friends and family, what about the person were speaking about, i'm sure they want to live a happy healthy life, and not have it taken away at such a young age, so much life..so little time :( )

That'll be no problem. Although I'll be playing a lot of SF Anniversary, I'll be sure to fire up the romz of SF2 and CE and do some ass kicking with Guile.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends, including you Wes.
At least, under his circumstances, he gets to have a little say over when and how, and gets to make his peace with that in his own way.
I realize that doesn't really make things easier for those he leaves behind though.
Let us know if we can do anything to help.

Damn man, I am so sorry to hear about this. Interestingly, I have a friend who sounds almost exactly like Trey, right down to his love of SF2. Despite my usual distaste for fighting games, I'll be sure to fire up SF2 and play a few rounds this weekend (luckily Wedge4Life has a copy here).

Mad Props to Trey. Sounds like he was a real innovator, as well as a gamer. Car alarm on an MK, huh? :? The world needs more people like Trey in it. Sad to see him go, though I never knew he...

I'm sorry to hear about your loss as well. Over the last year, I have experienced seeing so many young people die, it just makes me so sad. He'll end up in the good place when it is all said and done though.

Welcome to the Next Level. indeed. Energy can only be transformed, not destroyed. Einstein said that so we're in no position to correct him. That means we are infinite and human life is just an interlude in the eternal chain of events which cconstitute existence.
My sincerest sorrows on your personal loss; your friend is merely on the way to his next great adventure -- or a Street Fight in Videogame Valhalla, perhaps.
I am truly sorry
to honor your friend I will play a match of SF2 Turbo ... with anyone but Blanka

I was just reading through this thread, to see what else had been written, and i had Medal of honour playing in the background just at the start screen with the music that just plays and repeats (orchestra style theme music)
and it just started up again as i was reading past the 7 gun salute!... Very fitting!! as i was reading through everybodys comments! ;)
As we all fade away your friend is now in a really huge world completly dark apart from the one light shining above a single Cab!!, then he hears the Growl of the Street fighter II theme kick in! Daaaaaaaaaa!! Da Dena!! de, de daaaaaaa!! that is the only CAB music that gets me kickin! ass!! Then once your friend has whooped some Ass! it's off to meet "the man!" ;)

Might as well close this one out.. though I've been putting it out of my mind like a drunk with a case of vodka.
Goodbye, my good friend.. I may have been first chair Trombone in band, but it was SFII where you kicked everyone's ass.
I wish there was more time.. so much unfinished. so many sarcastic jokes to tell.

Subject: Trey - Final Update
From: "Anne Biesel" <annebiesel@yahoo.com>
Date: Thu, September 9, 2004 9:01 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As most of you are aware, Trey lost his almost year long battle with
leukemia on Wed September 8, 2004. He passed peacefully and was in no
pain.
It was Trey's wish that he be cremated and that arrangements be simple,
without services. A private family viewing will be held on Friday and
plans are being made for a "Roast" or Celebration of Life for Trey to be
held on what would have been his 30th birthday, September 27, 2004.
Invitations will be mailed to close family and friends.
Trey's obituary will run in Monday September 13th's paper in Dallas,
Longview, and Kilgore.
Trey and his family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
the SPCA of Texas or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
This will be my final update.
Good wishes for health and happiness,
Anne
Sorry to hear that. God Bless.

I don't know how I missed this the first time around, but I figure I'll add my 2 cents to this as well.
I didn't know Trey for anywhere near as long as Wes did, but all of my time spent with him was a blast. I never had the opportunity to play him at SF2 (I was always an MK snob and didn't play much SF2), but I did spend a lot of time gaming in general with him. Shoot, he was the guy that modded my PS1 for me and showed me how to backup games, way back in the day! He always had a scathingly sarcastic remark to make about anything you said, so I learned real quick to not leave any openings around him. He sure kept people on their toes!
Even in the end, I know he was at peace and that single fact gives me a feeling of peace about his passing.
Game on Trey!

*pours 40oz* This is for all my dead gamers and dawgs....I lost my best friend when I was only 13. He died in a car wreck at age 17 with his girlfriend, the school bus hit them dead on, he was in Little Rock, AR.
Found out the bus driver of his school was drunk as hell that day.
I'll never forget Eric....he was the first man to introduce me to the NES when I was only 7 years old.....he was the first kid on my street to get Super Mario Bros. 2 and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out during Christmas of 1988.
His nickname was Bear...I wish I could have played Bubble Bobble with him one last time...I felt like the obligation to continue video games in his honor and everytime I see Super Mario Bros. 2 I just say "God I wish he could have seen this"...especially when it was released for GBA for the first time..
I just feel like he's right there, just playing a game with him...
My condolensce to your good friend, Raedon

Situations like this are hard as hell, i dont know you dude or your friend but it brings life into perspective but let me relate it to his love for the greatest army in the world, the gaming army!
Hes been through countless levels in life and succeded, hes fought battles and won and now hes on the last level with the big boss to face who with all the power ups hes gathered along the way will prove no problem for him, then onto game completion and the honour of being immortalised in the gaming hall of fame! and, at the very top of the high scores list!
God speed to him, im sure he will be kickin maximum ass in that huge arcade in the sky where im sure, everything is freeeee!
I will make sure i have a few rounds with my girlfriend on SF2 CA on my genesis tonight and sonic boom my way all the way to the end and hand Bison his ass!
