I have two Genesis 1 consoles, and I'm trying to decide which to sell off. I was basing my decision off of cleanliness until I noticed they had a difference - one says "High Definition Graphics" along the top of the circular part and the other says nothing there. Since I usually prefer to keep the original version of consoles, which one came first? Was the text added to help sell the system or was it removed to cut down on costs?

It was removed but I dont know why. The High def if the original.

Any idea how long they were making each version? Anyone have any clue which is rarer?

I think it may be pretty hard to tell how many revisions there were since the original model was changed a few times to add lockouts and such, if I remember correctly...

I've seen much more of the high def then the other version. Sooo I guess the high def is more common.

Maybe because High Definition Graphics was false advertising as the resolution of the Genesis was rather low res.

Not for the time, it wasn't.

But it was just a marketing buzzphrase anyway. Capcom used to promise "high-resolution (or was it definition) graphics" on their NES boxes and ad copy.

Keep the one that doesnt have the "This game is licensed or produced by sega" message at startup.-....
