View Full Version : My Sega CD Collection will Never be Complete

Well, yesterday I came to the realization that I'll never own a complete Sega CD collection. No, it didn't have anything to do with high prices or my inability to find a game I've been looking for. It came down to self respect.
I was at the Goodwill and say a copy of the game Kriss Kross Make my video (or something like that ) and while I usually pick up any game that I don't have I just couldn't do this time. It was reasonably priced and seemed complete, but something just wouldn't let my hand go into my pocket and take out money for this product. Now I feel both proud and disappointed at the same time.

Good for you, you did the right thing :D
It's like a double edged sword. On one hand you would have a complete set but then you would also know that you have a piece of worthless crap sitting in there as well.
Sadly no format is crap game free :P

But you can rotate the video! And....add green and....cut it in half....
I see what you mean. :embarrassed:
At least it's fun to laugh at.

That sucks , but ever library of games has some of those embarassing titles.

Personally I think you're a panzy. Completing the genesis library isn't going to stop me from getting tons of sports games, barbie's super model, barney's hide n seek and crystal pony whatever. Actually my sister had pocahantas and that barbie game on my old genesis so they'd probably be nostalgic. Ugh.

either you're a pansy like hellvin said, or you just didn't pick it up so you can have a topic to make about it. :P
Every system has it's embarassing games, I have Barbie for NES, big whoop. Go buy the game, damn man, it's not like it's a big deal or anything.

There is a third possibility. Maybe he's afraid that if he'll buy it he'll succumb to the artistic greatness that is Kriss Kross. LOL
After all, Kriss Kross will make you "Jump Jump"
(sorry, I just had to throw that in)
Seriously, go back and buy it. Everyone hates to admit it, but we all have games like this in our collection.
Well, I have to go now. Cabbage Patch Kids for the Colecovision is calling for me!!! :)

Kriss Kross as in the band?! What the fuck! I would have bought that so fast. Do you get to watch their music videos on it or something? Well unless it was more then 3 bucks, then no, I wouldnt have bought it either. I guess your not going to have a complete sega cd collection, might as well just sell off all of the games for it that you dont play.

I've got two copies of Kriss Kross, as well as the INXS and C&C Music Factory titles. Yes, they're embarrassing, but I bought them as part of the set, not for what they are individually. However, it's your money, if you don't want to spend it on an item, I'm not going to tell you you should have done.

I don't think he's a panzy at all, now that I'v completed Genesis I wouldn't mind dumping all the sport games I have and keeping just the solid titles. If the game blows and isn't rare, there's really no need to pick it up, the next time I go for another complete collection, I'm only going to snag the common crappy games when their dirt cheap

It really matters what you feel like doing. If you really want to complete you Sega CD collection get it over with and get that game. But if you really dont care forget about it. Being a completest I have some ass game hanging around , Soul Fighter anyone?, but the point of having it is not for its gamplay to cd art or anything like that, its there becouse it belongs with the rest of the dreamcast games.

I only have Neo-Geo and almost complete Dreamcast collections for this very reason, there're always garbage in every system's library. I'm down to last few DC games, I'll tell you, it's a pain to get them, while you can get those cheap, you have to make sure they're in flawless condition, else you'll have to get another and you can't just try to sell those, some of the fillerbuster titles can't even be given away.
Collecting Neo-Geo was an awesome experience, nearly all games are at least decent, less than 10% of them are junks and with the price of the games, you pick ONLY one game once a while, rather than a bunch of games right away.

If you said no, you're probably wise.

I would say either go one way or the other
If u won't have a complete colection anyway, then what is the purpose of keeping all those other games you don't play? Come on, u know there is plenty of those.
On the other hand if u have those games that u never play, and want to keep them...what is a problem with getting one more? If you are a collector first and a gamer second then get it and have a full&complete set.
Seriously, either get them all or just keep the ones u love and play. What is the point of being somwhere in the middle?

Very good point!
How many people here who have "complete" collections own all of the new releases from Good Deal Games too? Do these aftermarket releases count?
I don't think so.

in my opinion...i would never consider a game such as those that were released after the system died to be needed to be part of a complete collection

I'm split on this one... if I had a Sega Cd collction, I would never consider it TRULY complete without the new.=, professionall packaged games that have been coming out the past few years. However, I'd also say that a collection of just original releases could certainly be called complete.
I make no sense.

talking of these late releases, could we perhaps make a complete list of those (maybe a sticky topic or a section of the online rarity guide), i always fail to find out which of these exist

If we're including after-market games in a complete collection, you really should feel sorry for PAL MegaCD collectors - Good Deal Games printed 5 (yes, that's FIVE!) PAL copies of Bug Blasters and Star Strike, so there will never be more than 5 complete sets in existence unless they reprint it. :(

Id say just original releases would make it complete, no need for unlicienced stuff, ie: for nes, just collecting the games that were licienced by nintendo so you wouldnt need hot slots or all those pirate carts, or the 52 in 1 and stuff like that. But I mean once you get the complete of liceinced stuff, then go for the bigger stuff like the unliceinced games.
anagrama
09-06-2004, 05:14 PM
Yeah, but if you include those 2 games there's a full PAL catalogue of 100 titles, which is a much nicer number than 98 ;)

Sometimes really horrible games MUST be bought just to laugh at. BAAAAD games are often so bad they are good. Like Michael Jackson ...or something...ok, gotta go.

Tell me about it... I know ONE person with a complete PAL set and needless to say, he isn't selling. I'm 7 short myself (including those 2), and I've been hunting for over a year. I did mail GDG about getting PAL copies, and they refused, but did offer me some NTSC titles which they seemed to have plenty of...

i used to have every single mary kate and ashley game for all the gameboy consoles. i actually had to give them back to my sister because she up and decided she wanted them instead of letting me add them to my collection. and barney's hide and seek is fun. it's all easy, and it's like, "wait barney, NO NO, YOU NEED THE BALLOON TO GO OFF THE CLIFF BARNEY!" and then you get the balloon to drift off the cliff. it's awesome.

I doubt I'd ever go for a complete collection of games for any system. I was considering a complete SNES collection once, but decided against it. The issue with me was wasting money on stuff I'd never play.

It is kind of a toss-up as to whether all the aftermarket releases should count or not for me too. On the one hand, a complete US release collection is still a complete collection without them, but on the other hand it's still not really complete unless you have all the aftermarket titles too. So they count and yet they don't count, if that makes any sense. For one thing, aftermarket titles are usually among the rarest titles for a system, so it makes sense to say they count. But then they usually aren't very well known, even by most collectors, so it still makes sense to say they don't count too. I look at them more as homebrews, even when they're professionally done like the ones at GDG. But since some of their titles are just unreleased games that would've been official if they had been released, it makes them seem more necessary. Same thing goes with all the aftermarket releases for the Jaguar especially. Most of them are very professionally done, and even come in official looking boxes with official looking carts & CD's, so they don't seem like homebrews. In the end, I guess it all depends on how well known they are, and whether or not they're widely accepted by most collectors as being part of the library.

To me a console game collection is complete when you get all official, regular releases, a few example:
Neo-Geo AES: Supposedly ended this summer, there's talk of 3rd party developing games on both MVS and AES, I'll probably won't get them, not sanctioned by SNK Playmore. A few other 3rd parties also made MVS-only conversions
Atari Jaguar: This is a tough call, I'm almost ready to include Songbirds' releases as official since the liscense is released, anyone can make games for it.
Dreamcast: US, it's done, I won't think of any other games now, not even special editions.

I thinking buying BAD games is complete bullshit. I have a bunch of complete collections, for Super Nintendo, NES, Dreamcast and more. No, I don't own ALL of the games, but I do own all of the games that I WANT TO OWN. Why the fuck would you waste your time (and shelf space) on terrible games like barbie or barney? I undertand picking something up if it's incredibly rare, but getting a terrible games to complete a collection is Bull. I think that a collection cans still be complete - you just have a complete collection of all the good games.
And it's also very entertaining that many of you are calling this guy a pansy because he refuses to purchase Kris Kross, or Barbie, etc. I say, you are a pansy if you DO buy it!
Terrible games come out all the time, take Cartoon Network Speedway for GBA. There are only 2 types of people that buy these (a) mothers who don't know any better and want to get a game for a kid & (b) collectors who want a full set. If at least one of those stypes of people stops buying crappy games, maybe there would be a better chance of LESS crappy games being released to begin with.
Kris Kross is fucking retarded. You made a good choice in not buying it. INXS maybe would have been an exception though. ^_^.

I remember once when a friend of mine pissed me off when he was trying to look really cool in front of some asses I couldn't stand, I bought a copy of the Marky Mark game on clearance for 2 dollars and slid it into his collection unnoticed for several days. Eventually one these "cool" jerks noticed it and they all bailed out on him instantaneously while making fun of him. A harsh lesson to teach him, but a necessary one. If those kids were real friends, they may laugh at the game, but they wouldn't abandon him. After a very confused and upset friend put two and two together, that night we attempted to play the thing for hell of it. The game itself was total crap, but we had a lot of fun making fun of the actors. Especially the boy in the intro who talks about how Marky Mark is a true artist who's all about the music. So true, eh? Anyway who put together the make my video challenges? You can make the video for, a. kids, b. parents, or c. a boxer?!?!?!? Well it's about time MTV paid more attention to that demographic I guess.
