At one point when I was new to video game collection I set a goal of having every system in the DP guide. Well I have everyone but the Adverture Vision and I was looking at the folowing Ebay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8127508821&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
I decided that I am just too cheap to ever spend that much on a video game system. I set the limit at about $300 for a home system.
The 30 plus people bidding on this auction must have a bad case of collecting to pay that much.
What is your limit for a home system?

That AV is only high because the games are new and that system is absolutely immaculate. Really a nice piece.
Anyway, I paid $350 for my Geo AES. Most I've ever paid. Would I pay more? Maybe, but it would have to be something I really wanted.

wow....that is a lot more than i would ever spend on a system, but, that is in great condition, so i can see why people are spending it
my limit would probably be no more than $400......but, i would prefer to keep it a lot lower than that

(/clicks link) mmmm...no.
My priority is gamer first, collector second. And my general rule on collecting is that it's got to be something I've personally had some interaction or association with in the past. Not just "oMg its teh rAreZ0rz!" Other than the CGE Museum I never saw consciously saw - let alone played -an Adventurevision before, so I have no interest.
This is not to say I would turn my nose up at an Adventurveision if I saw one at the Goodwill for $20 or less (and knowing me...I've probably walked past one or two, completely oblivious), on the other hand I sure as hell wouldn't stay up all night worrying somebody was going to outbid me on Ebay for it. Good luck to the rest of you, though.
Might as well answer the topic question while I'm at it: $75 tops is the most I'd pay for any classic system regardless of condition. That's what I paid for my Vectrex, and I'd be willing to go that high on a Bally Astrocade (something I'm really missing right now) if it had a decent quantity of games with it. Check the going rate on Ebay and laugh if you will, but I stick to the thrifts for console hunting, and I'm pretty certain I'll find an Astrocade for damn far less than that one of these days.

My limit is loosly set at $300. I've been able to purchase every console I've ever wanted plus 25 arcade games for under that limit (PS2 launch day pushed it a bit).
My limit is 200$, if its a rare or expensive system. Every thing else my limit is sixty dollars.

Well, for either a rare (adventurevision), new (PS2) or expensive (Neo Geo AES) system....200.00
For other systems, I try to stick below 20.00

If its something I really want I will pay an amount I feel comfortable with. If its $20 or $500 dollars doesnt matter as long as I am cool with the purchase and dont feel like Im getting burned.
Most I ever payed-$300-PS2

I paid $300 for the Sega CD when it first came out, but I would never go higher than that, unless it was something like those virtual reality coaster simulators that they have at Disney World. If I had the money for one of those, I couldn't buy one fast enough no matter how high the price was, but I can't even afford to ask how much they cost so my limit is still $300.

IŽd say that 200 is my limit....

I don't have a "limit," per se; as I'll limit myself to what I can actually buy. All the same, using my approach makes it too damned easy to drop a big wad of cash on stuff ya don't really need, or to pay too much for something that's common! LOL

I don't have a limit either...depends on how flush I am. I've never spent more than $300 for a console tho.

my limit for any used system would be $100 with the exception to the neo geo, which would be $300 if i could even afford to buy it :o

Well, I am a cheap collectors. And have passed up many good items at a fair market value, cause I am always looking for a good deal. But my wife payed 300 for the xbox for me when it first came out. so that is the most expensive system purchase to date. following that I payed 190.00 for neo geo aes, and 130.00 for oddessey 1 (which is 99% complete, some stickers unstuck) I think my next over $100 puchase will be a jaguar CD unit.

The only system I actively collect is gameboy, and they tend to stay below the 100$ price range (excluding the 20th Annevirsiary GBASP, that ones value is somewhere between 800-1000$ on ebay!!). The most I've ever paid was 150$ for one and that one was a super rare clear GBL, and I have 15 GBs of various types. I'd probably never pay more than 200$ for a system, unless I ever came across the TRU limited edition GBL. I've always wanted one of those.

I just tried looking for this on ebay and couldn't find one. Can someone point me to one of these auctions? I'm just curious.

I'll go looking and edit this if I find one, but I haven't seen one for a while. When they first came out there were like three of them with BINs of 800-1000 and they all sold. They only have a production run of 500(i believe), thats why the prices are so high right now.
EDIT: found 1 its even higher than the other ones I've seen, but I doubt this one'll sell, its really high and from Hong Kong.
