My friend came over yesterday and we decided to bust out the genesis to play some altered beast, and then i reccomended we play zombies ate my neighbors. I had never come to realize so much how much I miss these simple arcade type games. A life bar, a weapon, an item. It was so simple yet so enjoyable.
Who else here has played this game? I used to play it alot with my dad, the farthest we got was up to that sand crawler level w/ the GIANT worms. If I were to make a top 5 genesis gamel ist this would DEFINITLY rank in there.
(memories come back of killing werewolves, fighting dracula, oh how could i forget the giant baby boss fight!)

It's the last 16-bit game I remember fondly. If there was any game that would get me to buy back a SNES or Gen, that would be the one. The music alone was worth the price of the cart.
Yeah...I loved that game :D
Music was awesome in it too

ZAMN - fun stuff. Never got to play Ghoul Patrol, though.

This is defenitely one hell of a great game. I have the snes and genesis version but I'm not sure if they vary from each other at all. I remember playing ghoul patrol on snes emulation and not enjoying it at all.

Never got to play Ghoul Patrol, though.
That's probably a good thing. ;)
Zombies ate my Neighbors is great, especially if you're even remotely interested in cheesy horror flicks from years past. It's full of good, solid gameplay, and the challenge is right up there with any other Konami title as well. I just wish they'd bring it back and update it. Keep the same top-down view, but give it an overhaul much like Contra: Shattered Soldier - old school 2-D gameplay with a simple, graphical overhaul. I'd be first in line for it!

ahhh, me and a good friend of mine played this game at least every other day. sadly he moved away 6 years ago, so we havent played it as often since. he visits me about 3 times every year and i bust that game out and we usually play it through :D. we also have tried it through emulation but its just not the same ;)

Bought the SNES version and loved it since day 1. It's one those games you can play for a quick pick-me-up or play after a long time of inactivity and get right back into it.

Yeah, this thread reminds me of when zombies really did eat my neighbors.
Anyway, I agree - great game. I was playing it about 5 months ago.

Man, this game is pimp as fuck. It's funny, cause I definitely remember ZAMN being a cool game, and I did play it back when it first hit for the SNES, but man.... I didn't remember it being this pimp. This is just one of those classic arcade style games, just pure playability, pure video game love. Incredible music, great graphics, nice sound effects, the total frickin package if I do say so myself. Man, this game jumps dramatically up the SNES charts as far as I'm concerned. The SNES is full of classic games, big time hits, but this one still has to pull rank and bump itself into the Top 10. Considering how many incredible SNES games there are, that's saying something!!!
I agree about the Xbox Live Arcade idea. Supposedly SOTN is coming to Xbox Live Arcade, and that's a PS1 game, so why not bring over a SNES game!!! It's a two player co-operative game, it would be absolutley perfect for live!! Update it a little bit with 720p graphics and a modern score ( of the same classic melodies) and you're in business. Still I would always want to play the original SNES game on a RGB monitor for the purity of it all, but if I could play co-operatively with somebody over live, while talking about the latest in retrogaming on the headset, now what could be more pimp than that?
What say you?

Loved that game.. make sure you also play Alien Syndrome, as Zombies borrowed its gameplay from that wonderful game!!
I cannot wait until the new Golden Axe and Alien Syndrome remakes come out soon! I just hope they do good enough so we can get a Streets of Rage remake!

I've loved this game since I first played it, and I also enjoy playing it on the Nomad. There's nothing quite like playing such a unique game anywhere I want to.

My son and I play ZAMN together. It spends a lot of time in the cart slot. Great father-son fun there.

I remember this game being ridiculously hard towards the end. I went through a few broken controllers as a kid with ZAMN.

Played this back in late 93/early 94 and digged it. Bought it in 06 but have yet to play it. However, I already know I'll have a blast with it when I get around to it.
Back in the day me and my best pal Nelson we played this game a bit. One time I remember vividly... we couldn't get to the password screen because one of us would press start too fast and go to the "start game" option. We did this like 5 times in a row, he got pissed and went home for dinner. I don't know how that shit happened. :P
It's interesting that ZAMN commands a solid $15 on eBay these days, loose. I assumed, it was $5 or $10 at the most.

By the way, alot of people consider ZAMN to be a Konami classic, but they simply bought the game from Lucasarts and published it, they had nothing to do with the development of it. So Lucasarts should be getting all the love when it comes to the development of the game. I remember a long, long time ago, hearing about Lucasarts showing the game at a Winter Consumer Electronics show, and basically shopping for a buyer for it. At the time, it wasn't known who was going to pick up the game, but Konami ended up snagging the rights to it. A very smart move by Konami, but they didn't have anything to do with it's creation.

Yah modern graphics are cool and all but they're still nothing compared to the vintage 2D goodness we grew up with as kids. :)

So how many people have actually fought through all 48 levels and beaten this thing.
I used to play this all the time, but I never bothered to use the passwords. I'd just play through the first ten levels and shut it down. The next time I got the urge to play I'd rev it up and go through the first ten levels again... Well no more. I'm making it my mission to conquer Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

It's 55. :P
I haven't beaten it myself, I only know that because it says it on the back of the box. LOL

There is no point in playing this game by yourself, you have to play it with someone.

I've wanted to pick this game up for a good while but just haven't. For example, I saw it today and the box was all ripped up on the back so I didn't grab it. I really strive to get nice complete Genesis games... Maybe just maybe one day I'll have that chance to play it in the real deal instead of emulated. So, I have played it emulated and liked it but as most emulated games go I didn't play it for long.

Ahh, Zombies ate my neighbors... What a game.
I prefer the SNES version of it over the genesis version. The SNES version has better sound, better graphics, And better controls.
I never beat the entire game, Most of the time i only got as far as the Towering toddler level. Anyone ever rescue every one of the neighbors from THAT level?

I believe I have but it's been a long time and I can't remember too much about that level. I am one of those who never finished it. I need to go back and do it. And if you find any copy, even if it has a messed-up case, go for it. Maybe it'll be just a cheap copy to actually play...but once you've played it you'll definitely be glad you grabbed it. Or maybe it'll give you more incentive to get a nicer copy. :D

I used to play this game all the time w/ my dad, we loved it, he also liked to play 1 player. We used to get really far, I havent playe it in a long time but I could swear we got atleast 80% through the game at times, because we would be there for hours playing.
The levels I remember being the hardest are one with giant sand worms, and one w/ draculas castle. Wow I really need to play this again, what a game!

I too, love ZAMN! That's why I created a shop for it here at DP! I'm sorry to say that some of the items are a tad pricey, though. LOL
I wish someone made a sequel, on par with the first game. Ghoul Patrol.....well...wasn't as good. :(

Wow, I haven't played ZAMN since I was 8...that game did kick ass. I need to pick myself up a new version because I let a friend borrow it years ago and never got it back :( .

Just fired up this bad boy with a friend tonight and remembered why it was so great. The music! The campy feel! The crazy chucky-like dolls with hatchets! It's all so gloriously ghoulish. The perfect game for Halloween. Never could beat this one though. Always made it to the level with the giant ants and died. HAs anyone beaten it from beginning to end? Favorite level? Mine's the "Honey I Blew Up The Kid" level... you know the one!

This is my go to game, if I can't think of something to play. Always puts a smile on my face, that's until I get a gameover :P
