my choice would of course be:
Halo
i cant stand that game yet there are people who would die for it

I'll second Halo. I don't hate it, I just don't think it's more than sub par fun.
Then there's Super Monaco Grand Prix. That game was the first ever to get tens in EGM, back when they had a policy of NO 10s unless the game was nigh PERFECT. I thought the game was shit.

I'm almost convinced that Halo has some kind of subliminal messages that has turned all those gamers into Halo addicts. The game is pretty good and visually pleasing to look at but I just don’t get what is so darn special about Halo.

Oh boy, here we go....
Sports games
The vast majority of FPS games
Final Fantasy (Don't get me wrong, many FF games are great, especially 3/6, but there are much better RPG's out there)
RTS games
Bomberman Series- I like it, but I always, always kill myself! LOL
Grand Theft Auto- I rented III once, found it to be boring and repetitive. I'll never see the appeal, i guess.
Stealth games- Maybe it's because I grew up on games where you rana round shooting everything in sight, but I just can't enjoy this concept of "Not shooting that guy, but sneaking around him"
Flight Sims- Just don't like 'em.
3D Platformers where you have to collect too much crap.
Yeah, that's it. I think.

Streets of Rage (and it's sequels). I guess I just don't see where the excitement is.
Also...the music is really not very good.
I'm sorry, it's just not. I can name quite a few Genesis games that have extraordinary music (the first 2 Sonic games, Lightening Force, Ghostbusters...), but the recurring myth in the land of videogames is "Streets of Rage has an INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK! It's by YUZO KOSHIRO!" Or whatever. Maybe it's because it had bass and sampled snares? God knows sampled sound is the basis for another giant fallacy of the 16 bit era (ie; SNES and it's wonderful soundchip).
Nothing says "Street Fighter" like a string of choppy PCM trumpets. Yahoo.
Anyway, I'll add sports games, turn based RPGs (with the exception of Phantasy Star 1), the Tony Hawk series (and it's brethren), and most SNK fighters to the list.

The first Golden Axe and Altered Beast on the Genesis. I just recently played these games for the first time and didn't like them at all. Maybe it's because I never had the chance to play them when I was younger, so any kind of nostalgic effect is missing...but I seriously think those games suck. Don't they just have pretty graphics (for the time) but terrible controls and gameplay?
I'd love to hear somebody that agreed with me too, because I've yet to find anyone that does.

Every FPS ever made. I just don't understand why the typical attitude of the masses is that if you've played only one old school 2D shooter, then you've played them all, but they all insist that every single FPS is a unique gaming experience. There's way too many of them, just counting the Tom Clancy's.
And the press just makes me hate the FPS genre even more. They're the ones who are most responsible for the death of the 2D shooter genre here in the US, with all their rants about it being a tired and overdone genre, but they just can't get enough of FPS no matter how many of them there are.
Ditto for the fighting game genre. I love fighting games, and I never get enough of those no matter how many there are either, but dammit I love old school 2D shooters more than any other type of game! So why is that the one genre that the stupid press thinks has been overdone? It's not fair!
I'm tired of the lack of new 2D shooters on our shores, I'm tired of having to spend a fortune importing them from overseas, and I'm tired of my favorite genre getting the short end of the stick just because the press is over it! If there aren't too many FPS yet, then there aren't too many 2D shmups yet!

Space Invaders for the 2600. I just can't get into it. I get bored before I've shot 5 invaders. It's so slow and awkward. It feels like the ship is stuck in molasses. It's not a graphics problem, I love many 2600 games. It's not a shmup/shooter problem or a "no ending" problem either. I just don't get what all the fuss is about. And I can't fathom how on earth this game ended up being the first ever 'killer app' in videogame land or how it supposedly caused a coin shortage in Japan.
What the hell am I missing???

I enjoy the music from the games because i am a huge fan of early 90's house/techno music...and alot of the music in the SOR series was inspiried by that.
On to my "I dont get"
Street Fighter 2.
Any of them...any of its numerous (hell)spawn.
You can't actually like Golden Axe until you've played the true arcade form. All other versions of the game lack one CRUCIAL FACTOR...
"Ugh...goOODD!!" When the guys die...
HAHA..damn I love that. I would play my genesis version frequently if it hit the same level in the sound fx department as the Arcade did. (The Sega Smash Pack for GBA was even weaker)
You guys know what I'm talking about. :D
Anyways, to stay on subject I'd say...
Metal Gear Solid 2,3,X,whatever.. part 1 was great.
Metroid Prime 1,2,3,X whatever. The original Metroid was the goodies.

Murikumo for the x-box. It looks great, but thats all it does good. Poor controls and level designs. Same mission, one after another. See the robot, chase the robot, destroy it before it reaches the end of the stage. Next stage, repeat previous stage with different looking mech. It moves like a shoping cart with all the wheels broke.
FPS' would be a close second as I have never been able to enjoy the feel of the controls. Plus I like some story in my games. Most FPS' I find lacking in that. Specialy unreal.
Almost everything by EA. I dont remember why I hate them, but for some reason I just do.
Grand Theft Auto 3. I thought games were a perfect way to escape the problems of reality. This game and all its sequals not just glorify them, they go for the bottem of the barrel for it.
Power Stone (2)
Chu Chu Rocket
Pom Pom Games' games
Metroid series (ironically I love the "new-style" Castlevania games though :hmm: )
With Power Stone 2 and Chu Chu Rocket, my friends love the multiplayer modes to no end. Thus I play along with them, but I myself don't really get much of a reward out of it. I suppose they love these games because things can turn around at any minute so it's anyone's guess who the winner is, but I only play it 'cause I know how much they love these games.

Pretty much any side scrolling beat 'em ups. Double Dragon, Streets of Rage and TMNT included. I really don't get what all the fuss is about (punch, kick, move to the left and repeat...)
Street Fighter II, it's good but not that good!
The Wipeout series - I just don't fell any sort of atmosphere in these games at all.
And, of course, Halo, the most over-hyped average game of all time. It's just a dissappointing steaming turd of a game!

yeah, definitely add GTA series to my list. I mean I "get it" why people flock to the game, but what I don't get is the deeper "why:" why people get pleasure from such negative actions (even simulated). I never wanted to forcibly steal someone's car and then go run money for the mob, so I don't see getting any pleasure from simulating the experience.

let's see here:
Halo - I actually beat this game. it is fun and all, but not to the point where i need to play ti every single day. it actually sits on my shelf and collects dust. no replay value after you beat it.
MegaMan - it is fun, but not all that fun. it is just another typical 2d side scroller to me. try the game abuse for dos, much better than any megaman game i have ever played.
madden - madden sucks. if i wanted to play football that bad, i would have not been a gamer and joined the team in highschool.
nfl street - this game is pretty fun, but there are way too many people on its nuts. and besides, the ai is crazy annoying. one second they allow you to run for 50 yards, next play they intercept your pass and run back for a td.
gta 3/vice city - yeah, i said it. i been around since the 1st 1 came out, they are doing nothig new. all they did was shifted the camera angle from a bird's eye to 3rd person. all vice city and 3 are to me are add-on packs. don't get me wrong, i already have san andreas pre-ordered, but i am one of the people that has been around since the beginning, and get annoyed when people hop on the gta bandwagon, and then say that the 1st 2 games sucked. there are way too many people that have only played 3 and vc that claim to be big gta fans and those some people wouldn't play the other older gta games if they had 2. and besides, everybody knows that gta 2 is better anyways :)
EDIT: I forgot to add some. Well, maybe i didn't forget, i just didn't feel like getting flamed.
Chrono Trigger: I played it for a few hours and got bored with it. Actually the only rpg i liked so far is ffx, and that is just because i got to like the 2nd to last guy pretty easily.

Usually I can manage to enjoy practically every game out there, if I just take the time to learn it properly. On the PC I finished both Doom and Rise of the Triad, but I enjoy ROTT a lot more than the ever-so-popular-and-cloned-hundreds-of-times Doom.
On consoles though, it's mostly RPGs that I don't like. I don't think Zelda is very interesting, 'cause it has no story development at all. I'm not sure about Final Fantasy, since I haven't bothered yet to read the 84-page X_x manual.
But there is one thing that everyone seems to like. Joysticks on PCs and consoles. I mean, on arcade games a joystick is mounted firmly into the cabinet, so you use one hand to move the stick and the other to press buttons. But at home, you either have to use one hand to hold the thing, counter-acting everything you do with the other, or attach it to your table somehow, which will never be strong enough to cope with all your abuse. :o

There are two genres I've tried, but I can't get into because they seem to require too much management to be fun:
RTS: I try to micromanage everything and eventually get overrun.
Squad-based tactical anything: It's hard enough to manage one guy. I don't like having to order four around.
I also thought The Getaway, despite the high praise for it, sucked. Getting lost in London is not my idea of fun.
I like most games, though. I'm even one of those Halo enjoying sheep everyone's always talking about. I beat it a couple of weeks ago and I think it's great because it has some hard-rock run and gun missions that set it apart from a sea of current games overly concerned with stealth, and I like how some missions actually feel like participating in battles because of the other troops.

Grand Theft Auto.. I thought I'd love this series. But I got tired of it so fast. My brother LOVES it. He's beaten the whole thing and owns the entire city in VC. I can't get past one of the levels. So I gave up. I only like VC marginally for the 80's theme. Sure, I love the free roaming feel and go anywhere stuff, but well.. I can do that in real life and I did everything I'd want to do. Sure, if I feel like driving wildly, maybe I'll turn it on again, hell, I might even get back into it one day, but for now. Meh.
The Sims. I tried to get into it. I spend a gosh darned $35 on Bustin Out for the Xbox. I hated it. I wanted to return it but my brother loved it too. So I was out $35. Fucking Sims.
Metroid. I'd love to get into it. But I can't. It's too hard for me too easy. So I give up too soon. But I could probably get into it easier than the above two.
The current Resident Evils. Too unwieldy for me. The new one looks good. But of course, I'll wait until it's $20 used. The older ones, I just don't like the camera and how you move. Especially the PSX versions. God damned fucking PSX POS controllers.
Sports games. But only because I hate sports. And as of January, I hate the Super Bowl. Thank's a lot, Janet and Justin, you mother cuddlers.
Most RPG's with the exception of Mario and Dragon Warrior 1. All others are too much. My brother loves them though. I can get into DW. I can totally love Mario RPG. But a FF game or a Mana game or whatever, bah.
MMORPG's. I HATE these! It's unnatural for a thousand people to all be out in a field beating up monsters. It brings people together, sure, but I hate it. I hate that I am still paying $9 for Phantasy Star Online... Someone remind me to finally cancel that.
Racing games. I can't get into them. I like a racing game I can pick up and just play what I want. but if it involves me having to think or upgrade or unlock, forget it. My exceptions are the "Fun" ones. NFS: Hot Persuit (1.. Haven't played enough 2 yet.), Mario Kart series, Beetle Adventure Racing, Death Rally, (How I wish they would port this to a modern console. That was a kick-ass top-down racer.) RoadBlasters, to an extent Looney Toons Space Race on the DC (Love the cartoony look and effects.) and Rad Racer is good once in a while. Even if I rarely get past the first level.
Myst. Too damn hard. This goes for its sequels too. I bought the boxed set thinking I could get into it. I have the Saturn version thinking I could get into it. I can't. Too hard. And the graphics for some reason just turn me off. Maybe because it screams "Early budget 3D software".
Most Fighting Games. Exceptions, Smash Bros.
Tomb Raider. I like it, but can't get into it enough. And I was playing the demo back before it was even released. my friend showed it to me. Said "It stars a girl unfortunately, but it's still cool." I remember the Read Me mentioned some device I had never heard of.. something called a "Sony PSX"? What could that be I wonder. I like the movies. But I don't get the games. And I have the first three for the PlayStation and one of them for the DC.
Twisted Metal series. I played Vigilante 8 on the N64 first. Loved it. But I can't stand the early TM games on the PSX. And even now, I can't stand the PSX version of Vigilante 8.. or V8 as you can call it which I assume is some sort of pun. Maybe because I was used to the beautiful N64 graphics and had to go back to the shitty PSX ones and lack of the cool castle fantasy level. Bah I say.
Columns.. It's no Tetris. I'll leave it at that.
MegaMan games. Too hard for me. I'd LOVE to get into them. I like the music and old skool NES soundage. But it's too hard for me. I can beat ONE level on a few of them. After that, it's all timing which I don't have.
Zelda: Majora's Mask and Zelda II. Shit. Both of them. Strayed too far from the Zelda feel. I can not stand either. Majora is just totally dumb and II is just too hard.
Viewtiful Joe. I spent $35 on this one too and hated the difficulty. Bought it because I liked the artsy look. Dammit! Coupled with Bustin' Out, I spent $70 that I couldn't get back because my brother fell in love with them and the prices on both dropped a few weeks later. GOD DAMMIT! Are they WATCHING me?
War FPS games. I can't get into these. All the Tom Clancy Medal of Honors and um.. whatever else.. <Mr. Horse> No sir, I don't like 'em. </Mr. Horse>
And it's a stretch.. Shenmue. I guess I just need more time to put into it. It's probably too big for me to handle. I just get lost and frustrated. Did they make Players Guides for the two games? If so, I can probably try again.

Gravitar (2600) Everybody I know treats it like the greatest thing ever, but its almost impossible to control .
And Thrust. That's the point! Shows how hard navigation in space is.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add those pesky massively multiplayer online things. Its just a big chat room with leveling up. If I wanted to chat, I'd go to a chat room, if I want to play a video game, I'll play a video game. These "games" just seem to me like a way for basement dwelling mouth-breathers to continue to avoid the outside world and sink deeper into their sad little fantasy lands. Hence, I don't "get" them at all.

The Resident Evil Series (or any game that makes you "steer" the character)
i am definately in HUGE agreement with that statement. assuming to "steer" a character means what i think it means. i was so excited when i got vampire hunter d for the psx only to find out how the character was controlled. didn't end up playing it for more than 20 minutes.
