I don't know how many of you are or were active SB:LOC players, but for those of you who know a Vitzh from a hole in the ground--The "Dupe" exploit has been rooted out of the game.
For a while now, players have been taking advantage of a bug in the code for making trades. By strategically breaking the connection between traders at the right time it was possible to duplicate money, VTs and optional parts. The recipient would get the swag, but the giver would also retain it. This led to runaway inflation; money was worthless for trades and almost every player had high level optional parts (which by the game design were supposed to be rare).
As of a few days ago, an automatic download removed the duplication exploit from the game, so that no further duping could take place. The patch also slightly improved the netcode, allowing some players to connect who previously had been unable to play in campaign mode.
As of right now, the major question remaining on the issue is whether Capcom will act to confiscate the surfeit of duplicated parts, etc. Since the parts are not numbered, there is no way to separate the illegally duplicated parts from those honestly gained in campaign mode. The consensus among most (non-asshat) players seems to be that the books should be cleared and that the campaign should be restarted from scratch. Of course there are a few whiners out there who would be upset, since they wasted many precious hours of their lives trade-room-shmoozing and bin-camping to hoard the sweet VTs; but to them I say: Suck It Up.
Anyway, just thought I'd post this for the other two SB:LOC (possibly former) players around here who might read it.
