View Full Version : Playing Rare Games

I was smart enough to realize that I have some partially rare games (basically games that would be expensive for me to get again).
Am I the only person that doesn't play the rares in fear that you will mess it up and have to buy it again. my rarest games have to be house of the dead, burning rangers, and steep slope sliders. i am afraid to play burning rangers, because i don't want to mess it up. don't get me wrong, i have played it before (excellent and very fun game), but I am afriad that if I bust it out again, I could possibly scratch it and mess it up.
anyone else run into this problem ever?

i also own burning rangers, house of the dead, and a few other pretty rare cd games, but i have no problem playing them. i trust my sega saturn to not mess up my games, plus there are places that guarantee they can take the scratches out of any game. ive played house of the dead to death, and it still looks mint.

They're sort-of-rare games, not historical artifacts. They're replaceable. Enjoy them.

No... I agree with Red on this. Plus, with cartridge-based games, you won't necessarily have them forever anyways.
I play them, while not too rare ( but damned expensive) I played the hell out of my Panzer Dragoon Saga and enjoyed the money I put into it. Just enjoy the game man your only missing out.

well i have already beaten burning rangers, house of he dead, and there is no way anybody could top my scores on steep slope sliders.
now that i have beaten them, i am just worried about messing them up.
maybe you guys are right, maybe i should play through burning rangers again, because that game is awesome.

Well if it's a cd based system that I can't play almost perfectly through emulation, like the Sega Saturn, I just make a backup of the game and play that. Although you have to mod your Saturn or do the horrid swap trick. Luckily mine is modded. :)

Well when it comes to Quadrun there's not much there. Stadium Events is kinda....nah. Just never really break out my rares and play em, rather invest time in something else.

I will play any of my games. I don't care how rare it is. To me it is silly not to play a game because it is "too rare". If you arent going to play it, then why own it?

For my Genesis, I do not feel like taking it out for an hour or so, so I play Genesis roms( I only have roms of games i own)

I don't care how rare a game is, nothing will stop me from playing it. Of course, I'm extra careful and paranoid with my valuable games, but I'll still fully enjoy them.

Yeah, be careful with em, but PLAY them.....that's what they're for! Otherwise you're like a fine wine collector that doesn't drink alcohol.

As do I. I really don't think you need to be that paranoid with burning rangers, it's only about 50-60 bucks used. Now if you were talking panzer draggon saga, radiant silvergun or Psychic Assassin Taromaru i might understand. LOL

I EXACTLY hear what you are saying though.
I don't exactly feel like that towards my CD games, but definately do towards my more rare cartridge based games. I mean yes they are replaceable, but won't be forever. And I definately am not going to want to spend a lot of money on another copy of a all right game that really rare, but I would for sure for one I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY enjoy!
I don't have kikds so I treat all my video game memorabilia like they are my kids! :)

Since when are Saturn games cart based (unless you're talking about the KOF releases)? Maybe if he said Burning Force...
In any case, they're just somewhat expensive games. They're cheaper now than they were at release. On the other hand, you show me a mint Japanese copy of Contra The Hard Corps...and I'll say "Hmm, better put that in a box and forget about it for a little while."
But CD-ROM games? Unless you've got a copy of Psychic Killer Taromaru, no worries. Be kind to your games and they'll hang in there for the long haul.
Edit: Doh, competition in the Taromaru fans segment! Well, I can't always be quickest to the punch... ;D

I'd rather see a game brake while I'm actually playing it rather than notice after years of storage that's it has died silently.
I used to have the "play it all, no matter how rare" attitude until my Starpath Frogger tape got chewed up. I was able to fix it, but now I use wplaybin to play roms through my Supercharger instead of my original tapes. However, I think tapes are an exception because they are so fragile.
Unless you're talking about a one-of-a-kind prototype, or a game that goes for sale once a year and sells for $1000 or something like that, just play it. Current games cost $50 new and you wouldn't think of buying a new game and not playing it would you?

i rarely ever buy new games unless i really, really want them :)
i just can't afford to replace $50-60 games because i accidently dropped it. oh well, i will more than likely play them anyway. not today though, because it's the dc b-day, so I gotta give my dc some love  :bday:

I've got the solution! I saw these the other day..I must share them with you. If you are worried about your games at all this should do the trick..

I think I may buy a few of these for games like Guardian Hereos, Mars Matrix, etc..there a little pricey but when your dealing with games that cost as much as they do to replace I think it would be worth it.
Hope this helps? :D

Well, I mean in general for rare games... he did only mention Saturn ones, but I thought he was referring to rare games as a whole.

Eh, sorry...was being a little bit on the picky side.
I play them all, except for my prototypes, which I play on special occasions.
