I finally figured I would see what happens when I pop this in and turn on the SNES. Well nothing, Then I put a game on top turn it on, and I get a set up, make profile, it even trys to dial ( didn't plug in phone wire so dont know what would happen).
Then I get a crazy Idea, try it with that Final Fanatsy VI cart that been sitting on the shelf for 6 months collecting dust cause I haven't wanted to cut up my SNES.
Holy cow it started right up. I can actually play this..... I start a save file that was on the cart allready, play for a few mins. Realize I don't understand Jappanes turn off and put cart back in box, return to shelf to collect more dust. although I might fire it up to listen to the music. The overworld map area sounded pretty cool.

Anyone know if the Xband servers are still active? probably not, but that would be something.

I imagine it wouldn't be any different than using a Game Genie as a convert.

As such, the Xband was very poorly made, and the Save RAM has been erased in all units over time. It is unfortunate, as much valuable data has been lost.

the server are down.. and have been for a long time...

I forget who actually owns the technology now...

There used to be an xband.com that was run by one of the ex-employees.. he managed to get the domain from them... on it he had pictures and info about the company and a little on the rarer stuff.. I know that they did make keyboards but I've not seen one up for auction as of yet.. this keyboard would be extremely collectable as there were no more than 10 to 20 thousand produced and they were pretty useless without the xband modem. Additionally they had to be purchased directly from xband.

On a side note I did once play a round of Street Fighter against one of the Gamepro Magazine staff in a special promotion..

The bios of the xband was upgradeable and I'm sure someone could find a way to hack it in to working again for direct dial...

Well, you didn't have to be rich because if I remember right it was only like 14.99 or 19.99 a month. Anybody remember how much a month it cost for the Sega Channel.

Actually thought, the only two people that I know did own the SegaChannel, their parents did have money.

Lemme ask you guys something: For those of you with X-Bands, what do you do with them at this point?

The same thing a person with a sega channel adaptor does. Stare at it.

The most important data that was lost was the updated bios files. There were also mini games and newsletters that could be downloaded, none of which are archived. Some people in the emulation scene actually got some source code for the device, but it is pretty much useless. BTW, a while back, the developers of Zsnes added preliminary emulation for the device.

I pretty sure the save files were on the cart.

As for what do I do with it. Up till now it just sat on the shelf collecting dust. As it will continue to do.
I have a problem buying something, even if it is useless when its priced under $2.

Lemme ask you guys something: For those of you with X-Bands, what do you do with them at this point?I got mine complete sealed off eBay for $7. I tested it. it works, loads up, shows the neat artisticly drawn menus, attempts to dial. That's all you can do at this point. I put it back in the box after watching the neat LED's for a while and put it back on the shelf. That's where it'll stay.

Mine was a Genesis version.

I must say the GUI style is very nicely done. As if it was drawn by hand.
