I'm just getting into the dance/motion games, brought on by EyeToy: Groove. I have my eye on the MadCatz "Beat Freak"(?) pad & I wonder how it compares to others. There a GameStop "brand" out there too. Are these worth their reasonable prices ($15-$20) for some occasional use?

Is EyeToy: Play available w/OUT the EyeToy unit itself?

Also, how exactly does DDR Konamix (PS) link w/ DDRMAX (PS2), & what special features are available doing so?

Lastly, is Everblue2 somewhat rare? I can't find it anywhere, & it doesnt show up in the rarity guide above.

Thanks for any & all help!

The problem with cheaper pads is that they tend to bunch up or move while you're playing, which can be annoying. Even for occasional play, you might want to consider a Red Octane pad. I think you can find them at Gamestop, if I'm not mistaken.

Soft pads tend to not last very long. If you must have a soft pad, either stick with the official Konami mat, or the Red Octane that Lady Jaye recommended.

I never knew that DDR Max and Konamix could link. And I have both of them O_o

Man I dont know if you guys got EB Games in the states? But in Canada we dont got gamestop. But neways .... you can buy like a year warrenty for like a extra 5 bucks and it covers everything. It doesnt matter if it rips in half. I have only bought one pad from EB games and I have gone though at least 10 more lol.

The Madcatz pads are by far the worst. I bought one and it never worked; exchanged it and the second one worked for about a month. Save your pennies and get one of the higher quality mats.

All 3rd party soft mats suck, except for the Ignition (about $100). Any of those $20 soft mats will be almost useless for anything above Basic/Light mode.

The only "link" feature in Konamix, Max, and Max 2 is the ability to swap Edit data between games. Whee. Though Max and Max 2 might be able to share Workout mode data.

I've personally never seen Eyetoy Play sold separately from the camera. Places that sell used games would be the only logical place to look, I suppose.

As Kaine mentioned, Extreme USA is coming out this month. And it'll support the Eyetoy. That should be interesting, to say the least.

The new DDR supports Eyetoy? I don't really know if I want to watch myself play DDR.

That said, I have 2 redoctane soft pads. They're resilient and worth the investment.

I myself am thinking of getting an Ignition pad. When I have some spare money, I'll order it via Gamestop.com (which isn't too bad: shipping to Canada with them for the pad would be $20 US).

Is EyeToy: Play available w/OUT the EyeToy unit itself?

To get mine, I just purchased a used copy at GameStop and sold the actual EyeToy to EB games for $12 in store credit.

As for dance pads, I recommend this foam one:

It seems like a clone of Red Octane's Ignition pad. Anyone knows whether that one's good (or whether it's a licenced version of the Ignition)?

If it's anything like the MyMyBox DX pad, then it's like playing on a big flattened diaper. I've heard they're a little weird. But I've also heard replacing the foam insert with a good sheet of fiber board works wonders (never tried that).

I have one, and the foam feels just as tough as Red Octane's. It's not one of those crappy ones like the kind they have on display at Fry's Electronics.

Well, EyeToy: Groove IS available W/OUT the unit, & it's still called EyeToy: Groove, smart@$$. :hmm:

I'll take your reply as a joke, even if you were trying to insult my intelligence...it's a legitimate question, & makes sense if one already has EyeToy: Groove.

If you want a really fun time, play the "original" version of Eyetoy: Groove. It's a little something I like to call Samba de Amigo for the SEGA Dreamcast. Eyetoy: Groove is a blatant ripoff of the Japanese-only Samba sequel, Samba de Amigo Ver.2000.

Yeah, Groove didn't steal Hustle Mode from Samba 2000 at ALL. x_x
