The Akuma and Ryu ones. The packaging for them is real slick.

Yessir, that is one pretty box, shame it cost about 5 bucks to roll out and 85% of the populace who gets it will throw the packaging away.

I preordered a Ken controller from gamestop.com, and I've gotten close to 7 emails since then explaining that the release date keeps getting pushed back. I just got one today stating that the new release date is now 9/16/04. The release date started in early August and it's been pushed back so many times, we're in the middle of September now. What gives? Especially since you can already find them in stores.

BTW, that box is the pinnacle of sweetness. X_x

Do you think these will be rare / hard to find down the road?

What is the consensus among the early adopters regarding the quality of the actual controller?

I picked up the Akuma one today (thanks for the tip! My Ken & Ryu should hopefully be in somtime next week from eBgames.com. Need all of the shotokan guys. Bring on Dan!) and I must say that it has an interesting feel (big, yet strangely light like the original Genesis 3 Button) and a decent pad that is soft on the thumb while still being a well defined cross. It is definitely loose enough that the various circlular motions are comfortable, yet not so loose that it causes a problem with timing. Not as majestic as the Saturn pad, but pretty good and certainly worthy. I was so worried about the pad that I almost didn't preorder. I've had some bad experiences with third party controllers not made by ASCII or Hori (StormChaser... <shiver>) My only two gripes are that A) the Punch & Kick buttons, while a good size, need to be a bit more defined, and B) the start and select would be so much cooler if they were rubberized like on the Dual Shock. All in all, nothing to really complain about. Picking nits.

A special note must be made about the art. Instead of being incredibly cheesy like most of the other theme controllers, it is very appropriate and, I daresay, enhances the experience. Lenticular art is always welcome in my book. The aforementioned box is also a display box with a magnetic lid and little certificate of authenticity inside. Over the top, but incredibly cool.

I can't believe we got something this cool in the US.

I just picked up the Ryu controller from Gamerush last night. I couldn't wait 'till 2005 for the Xbox version of Anniversary to come out, so I traded in MLB 2005, Fight Night, and Secret Weapons Over Normandy and got the the game, controller, and strategy guide for $1.27.

Anyone know if Xbox versions of these controllers are going to come out? I haven't heard anything about them yet.

The box arts are from variant covers of the comic books. Good stuff.

I haven't even tried out the controller yet, I'm too hooked on Burnout 3 right now.

I think capcom announced somewhere that they were bringing out xbox versions too, and an xbox stick. I'm really waiting for that stuff, but I couldn't pass up on the Akuma one.

Butta - was this Blockbuster you got the Akuma at a Gamerush store or just a normal Blockbuster?

I'll throw my answer in there. Mine was at a large Blockbuster, but not one with a Gamerush. I live in NJ though, so there is no Gamerush as of yet. The smaller Blockbuster close to my home was a no-go though.

The Gamerush that I picked up my Ryu controller from also had the Akuma controllers too. I've heard that the non-Gamerush Blockbusters are selling them as well but I'm not positive.

Regular blockbuster. They had 3 of each controller.

I might get one of these just to use as my 'Fighting Game' controller. I love Street Fighter, but I am terrible at the games. (I rented the Aniversery Collection, even though I have about 3 different SF2's as it is) And I dont plan on buying the game, but the controllers will work very nicely with a few other fighters I have (Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 being the main focus)

I called up every Blockbuster in my area and only one "corporate" store had anything - 3 Akumas. Obviously, I got one. Classiest release I've seen in a while. Now I just need to find the others...

Maybe they sold out of Ryu already?

Anyways, Gamestop and EB will have Ryu, Ken, and Chunli ones soon. Anything after that hasn't been officially announced.

My blockbuster is running a "trade 2 accessories, get 25% off any accessory" deal...I may have to take some of these PSone controllers up there and see if they'll take em. ;)

Someone over at CAG is saying that the Akuma controller is a Blockbuster exclusive and won't be sold anywhere else. Each store is supposed to get 3 and thats it. Is that BS?

Just got mine after reading the thread. Did any one else get the 10.00 comic that was next to it? I haven't read it yet, but the art looks good.

I saw it but I didn't pick it up. Isn't that the same comic that is included with the controller (but with a different cover)?

I can see those SF controllers becoming nice collectors items, i'm a freak for sweet Box Art! as well as a huge RYU / AKUMA / KEN fan!

All video game companies should take note, and get there shit together! that is how a box should be! ohhwwweee!!

Actually, let me chime in on this one. After purchasing my Akuma controller yesterday, I asked the Blockbuster lady if they had any of the others. She said "no", then produced an internal memo/document regarding the SF controllers for me to read. To paraphrase, it basically said that Blockbuster had received exclusive rights to distribute the Akuma SF controller. If any other locations (like arcadeshock) are offering them for sale, then they're either getting stock through Blockbuster somehow or totally wrong and will have to refund buyers, since they're pretty much in pre-order status anyway right now. If you check out the EBGames and Gamestop websites, you'll notice that they only list Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li. Having seen the document myself, I'd say it's pretty likely that Akuma is strictly a Blockbuster exclusive. Regarding the three-per-store, I'm not so sure, though I can say that the store I got mine at only had three and it didn't look like any more would be appearing any time soon.

I first saw these controllers at the end of July here. http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=classic;action=display;num=109098751 7
According to what i read they have plans for more than are out now too. Right now i think 4 or 5 are out.
I picked up Akuma 2 days ago for 25 bucks. The art on it is AMAZING. I coulda picked up Ryu also but i didnt have 25 more bucks on me at the time.
For some reason my BlockBuster only had those 2 controllers though. They better get the rest.
