Genesis Shmups

Hey, shmupgang,

I've got the following shmups for my Genesis:

Gaiares
M.U.S.H.A.
Truxton
Thunder Force 2
Thunder Force 3
Thunder Force 4 ("Lightening Force")
Viewpoint
Wings of Wor
Zero Wing

I hear tell that I should get Phelios. What else is good for the Genesis?

Personally, I kinda liked Hellfire and Fire Shark. They're both by Toaplan, the creators of Zero Wing... but trust me, they're worth playing anyway. :)
Forgotten Worlds on the Genesis was enjoyable, too... it's not a perfect arcade translation but it does have the two player mode and some very nice graphics. I was dumbfounded when I first saw the game... it's what convinced me to buy a Genesis in the first place.
If you can find it, Super Fantasy Zone was pretty cool... certainly a worthy sequel to the previous Fantasy Zone games, with sharper graphics.
Do NOT buy Arrow Flash or Gadget Twins. The latter wants to be a Fantasy Zone-style shooter but there really isn't any shooting in it... just wimpy close-range weapons like bear traps and punching gloves. This makes for a very frustrating and unenjoyable game.

I have all of those except Viewpoint....don't need that, I have Neo-Geo version.

Phelios Rulez...GET IT.

I enjoyed Hellfire and Trouble Shooter was alot of fun.

Arrowflash sux...I did not like Forgotten worlds. Airbuster was enjoyable...so was Curse(Import only). I did not like Atomic Robo Kid either.

You have most of the good stuff. :)

Hmm. From an idiot's point of view (the idiot is me, by the way) I would say...

Hellfire, definitely. It's tough, but it's definitely worth it.
Maybe give Truxton a go?

In fact, hell. Pick up ANYTHING shmup-related you can find... if you don't like it, let me know and I'll buy it off you. ;)

I quite liked the Forgotten Worlds conversion. I managed to complete it in one credit, which was quite an achievement for me (I normally die horribly within the first five or so levels). So I tried the Arcade version on MAME... they're both pretty different. It scared me how much the Megadrive / Genesis version has been toned down!
