View Full Version : Game sale. Game sale! GAME SALE!!!
During breakfast today I caught the tail end of a radio ad for "2nd Turn Electronics", a strip-mall store in Fridley, MN, announcing a sale this weekend. I arrived & was floored by the huge collection of all things gaming:
sleeved NES games
loose SNES games
loose (mostly sports)/boxed Genesis games (& a few SMS)
Playstation/2 games (3 long shelves)
Xbox & GameCube games (multiple shelves)
used, rebundled S/NES & Genny systems (a few boxed)
boxed Virtual Boy(s)/loose games
loose/boxed Game Boy/GBA games
boxed (used) PS2 systems $99
portable LCD console screens
various console controllers & misc
big endcap of Pelican wireless used dance pads $20
As you can see, I didnt get prices on it all, but 90% I saw were very low. I got:
Guncon 2 w/ Time Crisis 3 (boxed/used) $10.50
ICO (PS2)- $5.50
Tecmo World Golf (PS longbox, in GREAT cond) $1.50
I assume most products are used, & all sales are final. They also had TVs, boom boxes, PC software, etc. Check it out this weekend- I'm sure you'll find something.

C 8-) 8-) L- let us know what you got!!!
Just a heads-up- the other Guncon/TC3 pack (there were 2) did NOT have the Time Crisis 3 game. Good thing I checked it. Didnt see any other Guncon/2 games there either.

Went today and picked up a few game gear games, Battlecorps for
Sega cd, Dead mans hand for XBOX, and a Shadows of the Empire
for N64.
No one else went? Do you happen to know what happens to all the leftovers after Sunday? I didnt hear whether they were going out of business/closing down, etc...

Id say go there late sunday. Like an hour before they close. Or ask them waht they are doing with the stuff. Maybe they will make the prices really cheap.

I asked the cashier about the store- he said it was a "test market"
of sorts, only this weekend. RJ, did they ask you to fill out a survey as
you were leaving?
Nope, not a word about that. I'm thinking about going back this weekend, though, just to see what's going on.

How far is that from Edina? What were the Virtual Boy games?

I don't think they'll be there- I think they said it was a one weekend deal

I drove from Oakdale (about half an hour all 694 freeway), probably takes at least that, up 35W to 694. Didnt pay much attention to/go through the VB games- I saw at least one unit in its original box. Maybe boboduo remembers?

Yep- I've read/seen nothing but praise for ICO, & I played a demo awhile back. I'm at the 1st save couch- I've got so many other games going now, but it'll be the first I go back to!

I dont get it- have they been there awhile, & closed down now? Where'd they get all those games? Where are they going? There was nearly a store's worth there! I guess I should've asked them... :o

I didn't see any virtual boy systems there, and the only virtual boy
game I saw was mario tennis.
RJ- it didn't make much sense to me either that they were only going to be open for that weekend. It's also strange because I could swear that the person I talked to said that it wasn't a store closing.
I will check this weekend- I usually hit a few thrifts around that area.

You didn't happen to get a phone number on a receipt or anything? I was working all weekend and couldn't get up there, but I'd love to call them and find out if they're really closed.
Nope- couldnt find them in the phone book (to verify their location) nor is there a phone # on the receipt- just the street address previously posted.
It does say "Thank you for shopping 2nd Turn electronics we hope you'll come back soon!" So there's a bit of hope...
I know I saw at least one Virtual Boy because I couldnt believe they had it! Guess someone got it- I'm gonna have to go over/up there this wknd- this whole thing is too strange.

I'm going to head up there today to check it out. I'll be sure to let you guys know if it's still there and/or if they still have anything worthwhile.

if things are going for really good deals dude, I would recommend you pick them up anyway. you can always sell them to dp'ers or eBay.
Flufflepuff- did you go? I was going to see for myself, but if you went you'd save me a trip!

I went up yesterday and I couldn't find anything. It was in the strip mall next to the Menard's right? We drove around for about 10 minutes trying to find it. Even when into the sketchy strip mall part. Nothing 8( On the plus side, there is a Pawn America across the street and a Saver's + Gamecrazy right down the street.
You mean you couldnt find anything to buy, or you couldnt find the store itself?
Now my wife says she heard another radio ad saying they close THIS Sunday- the 19th, so I'm under the impression they're still there!
It was a largish store, 6 or so large windows across the front (like a Country Club grocery store if anyone recalls those) & double door entry/exit on each end of the store.
FlufflePuff- sounds like you were in the right area- the GameCrazy guys even directed me to the place. Sounds like we'll have another weekend at least...

It was in a brown strip mall with a hotel at the end right? I went all around the place and the spot where 5235 should have been seemed closed. The 6 or so windows you were talking about were all covered over with black plastic and there were no signs and no visible way of getting in. If they were still there, it was hidden so that I couldn't find it. Possible they were "resetting" for another weekend. If you head up there this weekend, let me know if they're open again. I'd like to swing by.
I was gonna go today but stuff around the house took precedence *coughEyeToycough*. I doubt I'll get up there at all, but my wife swears she heard they're closing Sunday for good.
I also meant to hit Toys R Us & EB in Maplewood, but I just didnt get around to it.

The TRU in Maplewood has to be one of the sketchiest TRU's I've ever been in. Their game section has at least a third of the slots empty. They still have a couple of Genesis sports games for sale. That and the fact that the people who work there always look pissed off at life. Have you ever been to Toyriffic? It's just down White Bear Avenue, past the Noodles and Company on the right. Got some great games. They're usually overpriced, but if you're looking for some hard to find games, they're a pretty good place to check out.
Yep- there just last week. I thought it was a seedy store at first but they've proven to be a great source. They bought back some DC games for almost $20- after EB Games at the MOA offered me pocket change.
I prefer the Woodbury TRU myself.

Went there yesterday-place was closed but had a sign on the door
saying to check their website for further events.
http://2ndturn.com/
Good to know but the link gives a server error.
Nope- my mistake- works now! :D
Any more word on this place? Particularly FlufflePuff & Boboduo, as they seem to be the only others that took advantage of the sale...
I'm thinking they may have something going on for holiday shopping. I chacked the website- their eBay store seems closed down. :(
i'm really regretting not geting that other Guncon2 for $10.50, & I had CastleVania: LOI & Legacy of Kain: Defiance ($7.50 each) in my hands but put em back.
Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda.

Yup, my bad, skimmed over that part.
Sorry to resurrect this long-dead thread, but I have somewhat of an update...
We were coming back from a weekend "up north", & on 694 heading east & passed this place. I thought I'd see if anything had happened lately, any telltale signs of them possibly coming back, as some of you know I've been kicking myself for not buying more at that sale last year.
So we pull in, & there's a big sign:
WE'VE MOVED!
7340 BROOKLYN BLVD
BROOKLYN PARK
(763)560-0550
So today I coaxed my wife into driving there. The anticipation built up in me as we grew closer. I began scouring my side of the street for addresses. Suddenly it came into view! It was...
An Afro-American beauty supply store...?
8, 10, & 12-inch human hair extensions for varying prices??
WTF???
My best guess is that 2nd Turn moved out of the original location, & the beauty store moved in, & the "MOVED" sign belonged to them.
A phone call seems to reach a private residence (hey, it's displayed plainly on a big sign for anyone to see!) At least, they didnt give an indication of a business when they answered.
So, I'm at a loss here. If the few of you who hit that place's sale last Sept have ANY info on 2nd Turn Electronics, PLEASE post it here. Their website doesnt yield much info either... :( just some web-hosting BS.

I've never heard of the place in question, but there are two stores in that general area nowadays. There's a place called "GamesNGo" near there that has a pretty decent selection and somewhat reasonable prices, and a new, MASSIVE GameStop just opened less than a block from it (both are off the intersection of Brooklyn Blvd and Jolly Lane, near Hwy 81). Coincidentally, I'm really close to there as we speak (my game design school is about a mile away).
On another note, when I first read this thread, I forgot to check the date. Needless to say, I was VERY confused and excited. :embarrassed:
Guess I'll have to check out that GameStop, as it appears I wont be visiting 2nd Turn again. :(
Kinda long way for me to go, though...
