View Full Version : Forgotten Franchises: Streets of Rage
I just put up a new article (http://www.sega-16.com/~ken/Sega-16/Feature-%20Streets%20of%20Rage.htm) on my site about the Streets of Rage series and how it never manages to make a comeback. :(
Enjoy!

Wierd, I was just writing about Yuzo...so that's part of what he has been occupied with lately, huh?
Great information. Ever since "SEGA!!" things went downhill for SoA, and with it Sega of Japan. Sega of Japan needed to get them under control, really...wasn't that a factor in the 32x debacle (or am I getting it backwards, the 32x being pushed on SoA)?

Nice article! I still play my Streets of Rage carts. I introduced my friend to them (he had never owned a Genny) and we both played them until the last level. We got a game over though LOL I guess he needed to save some of our continues.

Nice article, though personally happy if Sega decide not to re-use and over-use all of their characters, unlike nintendo who seem to be content milking the same 3 names over and over.
The SoR series is great, i just wish the GG version had the hit immunity of the other versions. Its REALLY annoying to go almost the entire level without being hit only to die because you were hit repeatedly by the same bad guy and not given a chance to get up :o

Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star and Shining Force are all excellent Genny series that need to make a comeback, even if just in a next gen collected format like Mega Man and Sonic

I could've sworn they were planning something new for streets of rage for the dreamcast...
Sega has so many abandoned franchises it's ridiculous. Where's a new Zillion? Alex Kidd? Comix Zone? Ristar?
It's at the point that if Sega ever made a smash bros. type game, no one would recognize half the characters.

I have it. I also mentioned it in the article. :)
I want to play the Mega Man one.

To thell you the truth, this sounds like one of those games that you remember being much better than it really was. You wish that a sequel would be made up until the day that its actually made and released. You purchase it, play it for a few hours, realize that it boring, maybe play it a few times and then never look at it again. It ends up being one of those games that you could have purchased used at Gamestop for $12.99 if you waited a month. You'll end up saying that the sequel wasn't very well made when the truth is partially that the original wasn't really special to begin with.

:hmm:
Streets of Rage? Granted, the orginal pales somewhat to the sequels in the gameplay department...but SOR2 is an utter blast and it is the game i judge all other beat 'em ups against.
In fact,I like SOR2 more now than i did when i first purchased it in 1993.
