Went to a garage sale yesterday and found some Master System stuff. Had a few games and the system (no AV or AC). I grabbed everything and decided to list Outrun on E-bay seperately from the lot since it seems to fetch around $15, more than I paid for the entire package. Listed it last night.
Today I test the console, preparing to list it and the rest of the games. I pop in Outrun since it's a great way to "test" anything. What the hell is this? Hang-On/Safari Hunt??? Someone switched the ROM inside the cart!
Thankfully, no one bid on the game and I was able to end it quickly. Now I'm stuck with a somewhat sought after cart without the actual game. If anyone needs a box, instructions, or outer cart shell for Outrun though, I can provide those services. ;)

unlucky mate... are you sure that the safari hunt thing isnt the built in game to the master system?
Yeah, MS carts use standard phillips head screws so you can do things like that. That happened to me once with Golvellius. I rented it and ended up looking at Black Belt on my screen. Pissed me off to no end as I lived quite a walk from the video store.

There are Master System's with Hang On/Safari Hunt built-in. Maybe you should clean the cart and then see if it will work. If not, then that's too bad... Thankfuly OutRun is common.

ARe you sure it's not just dirty contacts on the cart? Hang On/Safari Hunt wasa built-in game with some SMS models, and it could just be triggering that if it's not reading the cart properly.
Give the contacts a good scrubbing and try it again.

Wow. You be correct. I knew the MS came with games built in, but I always thought it was just that snake game thing. All the time I spent with the DP Guide, and look what happens. LOL Anyway, the cart works fine. I'm an idiot.

I had the same thing happen with a Heroes of the Lance cart that I imported. Didn't clean it before I tested it, and I soon found out that the console had Safari Hunt and Hang On built in. A little bit of cleaning and the cart worked fine.

Wow, for once I'm thankful everybody moved to various security bits for their carts x_X
It's nice this story came to happy end.

I did this once with a Pyramid cart for NES. I switched the Pyramid board out with a Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt one. I still have the Pyramid board.
