2nd party controllers would be ones that the player him/herself makes.

2nd party has also been used to refer to game studios that are under the console manufacturer's wing, but aren't technically a part of the console manufacturer. An example of this would be Rare and Nintendo, before MS bought them, or Bungie and Microsoft.

Bungie isn't second party. If Bungie wasn't wholely owned by Microsoft, but produced games exclusively for them, they would then be second party. But, Bungie is pwned, so they are just a development team inside Microsoft.

this has nothing in common with the party issue but there are of course 2nd world countries, 1st world are the "rich" countries like the US, Germany, Japan, UK and so on, 2nd world are (i'm not sure on these but they could be correct) ones like Brazil, India and others, also called Take-Off-Countries (as they are on their way to become 1st world), 3rd world are the ones like Sudan, Togo, Peru and many many others
the division is made by wealth, economy, culture, infastructure, health system and a lot more factors

I always thought that 2nd-World countries were the former Communist states - Russia & the former USSR, Eastern Europe etc.

But you can't ever sell them, because at that point they're third party!

Actually, in academia that terminology is considered about ten years out of date :P
My question is - where's the fourth party?
Maybe the little green men under the bed make fourth party electronics...or is that what you get when your dog/baby/rabbit attacks your equipment? http://www.digitpress.com/forum/images/smiles/Llol.gif

First world countries, in economic terms, are those in which the economy relies heavily on on services (city planning, stock markets), second world countries have economies based primarily on heavy industry and refinement of raw materials (oil, textiles), and third world countries are those whose economies depend heavily on exporting raw materials (sugar, tobacco, coffee)
