What's the deal with the SMS blue label games? Is it just another label variation? Something to do with when the game was printed maybe?

When Sega bought the SMS back from Tonka in '89, the games that were re-issued had blue labels. Of course, the SMS was almost dead so the blue label games are quite rare. Other games had "Sega For The '90's" stickers on them.

I don't think it's a label variation, per se. I think all Slap Shot carts have blue labels, as well as a few others.
I don't know the reason, but I don't think they are alternate labels for the same carts (ie; some are red, some are blue, but the same title). Seems to me the blue label games are always blue labels. Not 100% positive, though.

There are a couple of games released in both blue & red label version in the US. Can't remember which 'cos I collect Euro releases. Fantasy Zone, mebbe?

I think Slap Shot and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World have blue labels. Most of the parker's brother's game have white labels as well. Don't think it's a variant, it's just how it is.

These games have both red and blue labels. The label color changed when Sega took over distribution from Tonka.

Both Slap Shot and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World have only blue labels. I've also heard of blue label versions of Altered Beast and Penguin Land but I can't confirm this.
