The famicom console and the Famicom Disk System?
I have the console but i dont understand your question .

That depends... I have the both versions of the console and a semi-working disk system... but I don't have the keyboard, lightgun, ROB, running pad, or <insert other accessories here>.

It's the keyboard and Basic cart that make it a "full computer system," more or less, as Querjek said.
No idea about saving to disk via the FDS.

Most of that should be pretty cheap to pick up - I haven't seen the data recorder, but the rest is well within the dedicated collector's budget (maybe figure $40 for the modem, boxed, and I don't know what for the keyboard - less than $90 if I remember right).
It's, well...of limited interest, really.
Nintendo was either a bit too early with the concept, or their peripherals a bit too cumbersome (after all the MSX series sold decently).

Tell me if you ever find a link to buy the keyboard for under $100...

I have a Famicom, Disk System, Data Recorder, BASIC Keyboard, some other BASIC cart and probably some other crap too. I don't read Japanese so I don't understand how to use the Family BASIC keyboard but the manual makes it look like you can make games. Someday I'll spend some more time with it but I need to do that with most of my games.

I know where to get one, yes, but given the source, it's anybody's guess when they'll restock LOL

oh yea and I forgot about satiview the add on where you can get updates on nintendo games, tv (i think) and other stuff but since people had to pay monthly service for it, it soon died out and never made it to the U.S.

http://members.sparedollar.com/resize.aspx?user=umebosi&img=twinfamicom.jpg&size=600

That looks like it might be the "Fire" orange version. If only you could see the pads better...the other one I saw had autofire built in; apparently this one doesn't, though. Maybe the autofire pads were a mod...
That's a GREAT piece, by the way, if it indeed is the orange one. It's worth at least a small premium over a regular Sharp Twin just for the color difference. Though I will say that there's no telling since the colors of the photo are off a bit...would be hard to mess them up THAT bad, but it's happened before.

It is an officially licensed system sold by Sharp. It's worth $100+ if it is in working condition (the disk drive usually doesn't work). It has A/V output so it work perfectly on a US television. A standard Famicom with RF may not.

Problems with the disc drive (the vast majority) are mostly due to the black rubber belt crusting up and becoming brittle. They're replaceable, and there's nothing to say one can't come up with a better belt eventually.
Yeah, the Sharp Twin Famicom, especially this exact version (first edition, red) is a great collector's piece. In fact, I'd say it is the best you could do if you only want to own one Famicom and Disk System.
Just to clear up a few things (to the best of my knowledge) the version you see here does not have the autofire buttons. There was also a black version of this that looked almost identical except that all of the red plastic is black and the little black bezel around the cart slot is red. Please step in and correct me if I'm wrong.
The second version of the Twin Famicom had a different, arguably less cool-looking case, but also came in both red and black versions. And this version had the autofire buttons on the controllers as standard equipment.
There were replacement controllers out there for any official version of the Famicom, either the Nintendo base unit or the Twin, that added features like autofire. These either plugged into the 15-pin expansion port or plugged directly on to the system's main board to the same 7 pin headers where the stock controllers were hooked up. This second type of upgrade required disassembly of the unit. All very cool stuff!
Man, I want a red first edition Twin Famicom!!!

That's not a red Twin; that's an orange one. Yeah, I actually see one of the red plugs on the A/V cable; but checking with my saved copy of the auction for the "fire" one I see the cart slot and colored buttons are totally different on this one...the unit with the autofire buttons had a white/blue/white strip going all the way across the top of the unit.
No autofire on the unit here; the autofire switches would be on the visible part.
Zach, nobody really knows what order the units came out in, but model numbers might give a good indication. The black case/red trim is AN500B; I can't make out the model number for this unit.
Here's the picture at its native resolution:

Too bad I can't see the model number!

That's the exact model I was originally supposed to be getting from gamechoice.com.hk, and that's the style the *other* "Fire" (not to be confused with the G&W game) orange Sharp Twin's cartridge slot comes in.
I somehow doubt Nintendo was able to pull Sharp's units off shelves in 1988 due to "rampant copying," seeing how Nintendo didn't own the units, and disk kiosks stayed around in stores for many years after (plus Nintendo would write a game to disk if you sent one in). I've always been a bit put off by that description on this site.
Stupid Dark Watcher's Console History at it again.

I understand the original Family Computer (it even says Family Computer on front) is an RF machine, so people don't like using them if they can find a Sharp Twin or an A/V Famicom - both of which output A/V. A/V Famicom is pretty much superior to the U.S. released toploader. It's identical in style to the US machine (to my casual glance, since I dislike the look of both machines) but has none of the visual artifacts that hamper toploader games. There's one of these on Yahoo! Auctions Japan right now, with something like 70 games with it, going for a decent price too.
Sharp Twin? Well, the ultimate in that series is the Titler, for its S-Video option. Yay!

to me I will have to say a tie between the NES and famicom because each had really good games and the accessories were great!!!
right now I am working on a custom made game system with the power and greatness of famicom/nes/and nes 2 top loader on one system so all accessories, games, and top loader will all work!!
codename: NESCOM X

oh yea one more thing what ever happen to the short lived NES 2 top loader system and did they ever make a famicom 2 top loader??

The Famicom, as far as I can tell, had every accessory the NES did and then some. It had almost every game the NES did (I think I can say they didn't miss the ones not released in Japan, with maybe an exception or two) and probably a hundred more. So it's like a tie, but one side of the bow is much bigger than the other, see.
Only thing the NES has definitely in its advantage would be the plug-in controllers - you can swap 'em if they go bad! Not so with the Sharp Twin models, at least most of 'em. A/V FC has swappable NES style pads, sharp corners and all.

Man, I knew there were a few variations of the Sharp Twin Famicom, but I never saw an orange one before! Sweet!
I don't own the keyboard or basic carts, but I do have the Famicom and FDS. Using the PC to FDS cables, I guess you might say I have the full computer, heh heh. :D
Wish I had the keyboard. I hear there's some odd easter eggs you can do in some carts that can only be accessed by the keyboard. Anyone remember that ODD trick in Zanac that let you tweak you lives, invincibility and a bunch of other stuff by messing with the cartridge in the slot? Turns out that is supposed to be accessed by the keyboard.....

True...but I never use the original pads on the famicom anyway...afraid I will ruin them and the cords are like 2 feet! I use my Playstation2 to Famicom adapter...plugs right in the 15 pin accessory poot on the front of the Famicom...that thing is awesome!!!

The Super Famicom (and indeed the Super NES) were built around a (horrible) processor that happened to have the ability to run the same code the NES processor does. It's actually the same processor that (some version or other of) the Apple 2 uses; low cost version.
That functionality was originally promised, but eventually Nintendo reneged on that and decided it wasn't a selling point for the new system (think about it - everybody who already had an NES owned one; there was still some old stock to sell, and of course the extra functionality would've cost Nintendo $ on each unit - maybe $$!)
As for that funky looking thing you posted, looks like somebody hacked a PC-Engine box design into something monstrous (though that's obviously not taken directly from the PC-Engine mold, since the "card slot" is offcenter). If you say that's for the Super Famicom, well. It's not first party, that's for sure.
The Satellaview was a Super Famicom exclusive add-on which tuned into a certain channel at certain times and would download new games onto a sort of RAM cart. I believe they had high score contests, too. It wasn't a proper modem, though.

and it never made it to the U.S.
just because the thing did not sell good in japan doesn't mean that they cant try the U.S. I would think it woud be cool but thats nintendo's choice.
