Rewiring a Jamma Cabinet (Vigilante)

well, my vigilante cabinet had no sound when i first bought it, so i decided to get a new jamma harness and rewire it...

well, i put that in today before i had to head back to school and low and behold the new harness fixed the sound problem, so there must have been something wrong with the old wiring. my father played around with the coin mechs and got one light to work and needs a new bulb for the other.

i need to rewire the control panel yet, clean all the buttons and the joystick and get the left coin mech to recognize credits....

but, a problem occured during the rewiring...after everything was hooked up and i had sound, i could not get the start buttons to start the game....it just sat at the title screen...i could advance the credits, but could not play the game....this could just be shitty control panel wiring (needs to be redone), but it was working when i didnt have sound...

so, my dad is gonna keep working on it until the next time i go home for the weekend, but, does anyone have any ideas that i can tell him on what to do to get the game to start??

Well, it's really simple how it works, so I'd just check to make sure that one side of the start switch is connected to ground, and make sure the other side actually makes connection to the pin on the JAMMA harness/PCB. It's probably best to check the continuity with a multimeter. You should also make sure the button switch is actually making contact if it's a leaf switch, or actually switching if it's a microswitch. Other than that, possibly the board went bad, but that's unlikely...

well, it was working prior to the new harness and i checked it with a multimeter for coninuity.....but i was messing around a little with the control wires, so i guess ill have to rewire the controller and then go from there
